Python is not a popular language in Nigeria, not sure why? It’s awesome!
So, I guess my question is… are there a lot of Python/Django developers?

I know, lemme see now. Say about 10 Python developers in Nigeria. You know the market; if it ain’t PHP, it ain’t worth it
And to answer your second question, I’m not sure how much is a lot. PHP-level much?
I don’t think anyone even exists. But that doesn’t stop anyone from starting one. I mean it wouldn’t be so hard because python is a relatively easy language to learn as compared to PHP and Ruby.
And django is a solid web framework for building scalable web apps and it is also relatively easy to learn to.
And you, dear sir pulled that statistic out of your rotund posterior?
Seun Osewa is a Python dev, nairaland was built with Python/cherrypy, Mark Essien is a Python dev too. I am one too, and know many more.
Kindly get your facts right, say no to misinformation.
easy there mate, it was just a question.
That’s a strong accusation right there.
I suggest you read my answer again; I strongly doubt you did before. This time I recommend you read very very slowly. And preferably let your brain do the thinking for you instead of your round posterior.
I think you’re capable of comprehending simple English. And I didn’t even use the big words this time.
Typical.
You really did pull that statistic out of your rotund posterior.
Get your facts right, say no to misinformation.
Since your brain is still on recess, I’m gonna bite and save you from your comprehension misery.
That means, I know (interacted or worked with) about 10 Python devs in Nigeria. No where did I pass that off as a fact representative of the Python dev community in Nigeria.
If the block of text quoted above was too difficult for you to fathom, least you could do as a troubled student is ask for clarification. Or ignore me like a normal human being will do.
The detail is in the punctuation. But you wouldn’t know that, would you? You have a brain for a reason. Just use it!
Oh…it is on!
I am a python developer and I would always choose python over php in any application, Emotu Balogun of http://traclist.com is also a python developer, Seun Osewa of http://nairaland.com is an amazing python proponent too. There are also a lot of people who use Python in their quest to study artificial intelligence / machine learning.
Python is now included in the Computer Science curriculum in some Nigerian universities including FUTA.
I still insist you pulled out that statistic from your rather rotund posterior. #lowhead
Yo! @pyatar, in your earlier post you mentioned three Python developers and “many more”, clearly you’re not familiar with the English language when I said it’s not a very popular language and we don’t have a python developer community.
instead of talking about everyone’s “rotund posterior” and being absolutely rude, why not stick to the topic in hand and talk about the stats and building a community.
Happy to see so much intelligent, level-headed discourse going on in here.
Anyhoo. Been using Python/Django since last year. Huge fan.
English is definitely not my first language. Pardon me.
I thought this was a post intended to garner support for creation of a Python/Django Developer Community. Honestly don’t see the need for the exchanges about rotund or posteriors or what have you.
At both ends of the communication are two humans - we should be courteous and dignify each other abeg.
And meanwhile, I’m a python dev too oh
But seriously, this is a misconception due to punctuation. Analysis:
I know, lemme see[period]
That implies you know and you’re trying to get the numbers out. That is you know the numbers.
Say about 10 Python developers in Nigeria.
That’s an entirely different statement, it may or may not build on your previous statement, so you see, learn to use punctuation right. If you had used a comma instead, “lemme see” would have been a parenthetical statement.
I know, lemme see, say 10 Python developers in Nigeria
which is equivalent to
I know say 10 Python developers in Nigeria.
JustBeingANerd
alright, Interested Python developers what is the next step to take in building a small community/group where we can share ideas/problems and collaborate.
ideas welcomed. thanks!
Creating a Q&A forum strictly for python/django where we could share ideas and ask questions relating to python/django would be a good start. And maybe organizing a meetup once in a while to discuss and hack.
Hello,
I know this is a really old thread, but when i googled Python community in Nigeria this was the only thing that came up.
I am a recent pythonista , and a Django Girls organizer. I am planning a DjangoGirls workshop in February in Lagos. A one day workshop teaching women the basics of web development using Python and Django framework, and was hoping to get in touch with the Python community in Nigeria, but it doesn’t seem like any has been created yet. If there is can anyone point me to where i can join?.
If there isn’t are there any plans to create one?, I believe, asides python being an awesome language, it’s power is in it’s community especially in different parts of the world, and it would really be sad if there wasn’t one in Nigeria.
Hi, interesting points. By the way i shuttle between php and python but i have a soft spot for python, in regards to the community i have little to no idea if one exists. I wouldn’t mind being a part of one so i guess we could try to build or contribute to one. SIGN ME UP
