Nigerian Ecommerce Companies Twitter Report

Everybody tries to focus on the numbers that’ll make them look good.

Maybe that is why people turn to alexa ratings, and social media connections during first line evaluation of internet service companies.

So maybe twittier followers count is a reflection of how much money is being pushed around.
Or maybe it’s just one of those tools that deliver more hype that sales, so we can cut funding for social media marketing.
Someone pulled this in trying to defend our social media investment as we look to trim down forex expenses.

How much this translates to the money each one is pushing around may only be clear in 2019.

There are different goals for being on social media aside making sales.

Although for a startup, it should be all about sales and growing at its infancy.

Numbers of followers don’t necessarily translate to sales. Most times it’s just an ego metrics.

I think most people and organizations don’t start with the real questions i.e:

  1. Why should we be on Twitter? What do we hope to achieve?
  2. How does being on Twitter tie with our core business goals?
  3. Will we be making the most of our limited resources being on there? What is our opportunity cost?
  4. How will we measure Twitter’s input? How will we know we are meeting our goals of being there in the first place? What is our return on investment?

Unfortunately, most times, the wrong questions are asked i.e:

  1. What should we do on Twitter?
  2. How do we get more followers?
  3. What are our competitors doing that we are not? (This is asked without asking the why are they doing it)

Planning and budgeting are always political activities. Everyone will be trying to protect their job and would like to get more funding.

It’s up to the decision makers to ask they why and determine the direction to take.

@xolubi I thought so too but he is winning his argument with data growing the community averagely 6k/month for less than $150/month.

@wkyo jiji is investing a lot on DigiAds. Especially Instagram.

lol… You and these your GIFS

But do followers mean anything?

NairaMoney!!! :slightly_smiling::slightly_smiling::slightly_smiling:

Just want to share this with the house and ask If anybody can explain what Nairabet is doing that everyone else isn’t doing.
Reminds me of that kid who scores 94 in a Further maths test while the next score in class is 43%

How did nairabet gain 14000 new followers in 3weeks?

Even if its money being spent, I think that is outrageous.

@Uduak Perhaps NairaBet is the only platform that offers a “get rich quick” approach to business? Besides, that speaks volume about what Nigerians generally want online.

They dont call Otunba Akin Alabi “The Guru” for nothing…

Looks like I will be retiring Nairabet from my next analytics.

Offline visibility is what they are doing…every corner you turn, there is a Naira bet, no Jumia, Konga…just nairabet

Interesting Stats, I guess every Startup should have a Goal in mind before using or focusing on Social media channels

a) Brand Awareness

b) Customer Support

c) Sales

d) hype

e) Community

Depending on the above Focus the tone, budget, push and campaigns will change, but lest we Forget…people do buy followers dont they?.

As you can see below, NairaBet promotes its tweets.

This is based on the assumption that all the tweeter followers of Nairabet isnt fake.

I just ran a twitteraudit on them… now wait for it…

Fake!!! as expected…

Even though this audit was done a year ago, the result shows they have the tendency to buy fake followers…

It might be helpful if you run it again! A number of companies starting out buying fake followers to help their “initial reputation”. I am not taking any moral standings; but it “might” be insightful to run it again (modern day)

well… I tried… but twitteraudit wanted me to upgrade to pro…which I am not ready to…
