Jangilova (beta)

hey, my name is Richard Ogundiya- 19 years old student of the University of Lagos and I’m happy to launch the Beta version of Jangilova with my friend @Tody.

JANGILOVA is set out to be Africa’s largest community driven company. We are a shared-service network that connects people with people so that they can watch movies, play video games, view football matches & other sport fixtures, news, TV programs/series etc. So even if the theaters inflate their prices, consoles become expensive, PAYtv subscriptions are exorbitantly high or you find yourself in a no-access situation, JANGILOVA will connect you with people around who are willing to share their screens with you. Jangilova offers you the cheapest and most convenient ways to enjoy your free time without hassle around your city . We allow bars, view centers and other public places or ventures post exclusive listings screen-related.
We envision a world made better by sharing and sharing made richer by connection.

Last week, we were featured on PageONE and Thesheetng

Do visit our site and sign-up to start sharing. Thank you.

Nice idea and great interface.

My question now is on the issue of safety… How do you intend to mange the safety of users? What are the processes involved in verifying users?

thank you very much @daviruz. we conduct background checks with information collected. after sign ups, users are required to build a comprehensive profile that consists of a profile picture, bio, phone number and address and social media accounts (every info is confidential). we do email and phone number verifications.

First, you might want to make this;

this;

jangilova.com

Secondly, im wondering what version of me would welcome a potential serial killer/sucide bomber/ Armed robber/ plain thief total stranger to my house to share my screen with, I mean this is Naija, any thing can happen.

Safety is very important and has been the major concern with Jangilova. I can assure you that the basic verification methods put in place greatly reduce the security risks to users.

Unverified users don’t have access to the listing page and messaging system.

Before accepting a request on the messaging system a verified user has a pic to show he/she has been verified. Also, you can check the info provided by a verified user such as the his/her social media accounts. At the end of the day the choice is yours. You can choose to decline or accept the request.

Anything can happen anywhere in the world. People get stabbed on a trip to Australia or Exotic Getaways.
So please drop the “This is Naija” part. Bad things happen/can happen anywhere even when you pay for Airbnb. When we throw big parties and weddings, strangers still attend (You could be mugged later)

So we could ask the young man to assure us his background search approach works or we suggest ways he could better his service.

Let’s look at a potential reason for this service: A 70 year old retiree whose kids are all abroad, he could open his door to people to come watch football matches with him and in the process he gets the benefit of outside company. :slight_smile:

A little positivity helps grow our ecosystem.

Yay to positivity

Maybe you you should limit listing to Facebook friends because I doubt you convince me to allow a stranger come to my house to watch TV because you say it’s safe. My 2 cents or 8 naira for Nigerians

Great idea btw

I’m very happy you said this. The truth, no one can guarantee safety 100%. We haven’t placed automatic algorithms to just pass and check. we do real time verification. @habeebsulu, i remember when i heard about uber, i laughed and said i wasn’t going to enter a stranger’s car but overtime, we saw a system that worked and i use the service almost everyday. we are ready to build a system that works; one that makes you comfortable to allow ‘friends you haven’t met’ come over to your place. a lot of us enter danfo buses everyday. we don’t know who and who are by our sides. We will evolve overtime, an that evolution is what will convince those that doubt- the good thing is a lot of people have shown interest. Thank you.

i agree! we should take time to look at the positive side of things too.

Great idea.

I am moving to Lag soon so amma need this. But I wouldn’t want to go watch ball and go back home with only my boxers.

I think you should start the way Facebook started; with friends. Start with the people u know and the people those people know. (Invitation only) This way everyone can be traced.

Take pics and upload on social with jangilova hashtag. Let it grow from there.

Thank you, see you in Lagos

Great idea. Would be a great value just to know viewing places all over Nigeria. Like a yelp for all things entertainment on and off screen.

Looks like a Wordpress-based solution. Is that correct? Beautiful application you got there. Wish you the best

Yes, does the job for now.

Thank you!

This is a really nice idea. Your initial target audience should be sport viewing centers and I don’t think it should be limited to Facebook friends. Instead limit it to your area for now(e.g.Yaba), then you can expand. Execution is key and if you do it right, you might just probably be on to something here

@SashaWinston thank you! we are not limiting to Facebook friends, just people around you. Lagos is focus for now…we will get it right, surely.

Love this… I’m in Sokoto, but I’d love to try this out–in Sokoto…

One thing though, the details to fill on my profile are quite a lot, why can’t I just sign in with my Facebook or Google account and you import details from there, and that way the verification can be quicker I guess…

hey @sprime yea we are working on signups via facebook to make the work faster. Don’t worry, you’d be the first to know when we get to sokoto:joy: but for now please help support our Lagos movement:punch: Thank you.
