They’re even promising to handle customs clearance. Begs the question of what if anything Amazon would be prepared to do to facilitate ground transit (even to the last mile). The ecommerce plot thickens.
I only forsee partnership with local companies like deliveryscience.co as their backbone…it won’t be easy as regards operations in the already known harsh African terrain…
But trust Africans, so long its an American company they will patiently wait for 3 - 4 weeks for the delivery without complaints and yes! Pay on delivery don’t apply.
I wonder what will come of all the $ and research Amazon is putting into drones? I could also see Amazon buying its way into the market with a Zappos-style purchase. Let someone else break their pick on logistics then scoop them up. Not anytime soon , though, but that would be some exit.
It’s all the “buy from abroad” proxy shopping sites that really have something to worry about. At least at first. Konga and Jumia and co need lose no sleep yet.
I think that’s “normal” for international shipping. It really depends on how bad you want it though. I had to buy a component for my laptop sometime ago, which I could not find in Nigeria, the shipping cost from AliExpress was just as excessive, I ended up buying more than the quantity needed, just to justify the cost
