Saw a link to this post on Twitter, and as someone who had never heard of Afro (the AfroCab was written in such a throwaway fashion it took a bit to click that that’s what they were called before) that was immensely frustrating to read. I ended the post thinking… wait, who is this, what do they do and what are they talking about? And had to click two links to figure that out. So, not doing so hot on that impression thing.

Not to mention that first link that says absolutely nothing. weareafro.com, okay. Next.

Link doesn’t work. I too, had to read that article twice.

While we would like to see a coy named Afro succeed, you can’t claim Afro and then put the bg of a non African city (my guess). Not cool.

I don’t know how these guys plan to beat Uber here if they are not going to seriously differentiate themselves. Uber has raised more money than the Vatican and they are very smart about spending it. E go rough small.

WHR is Taxi Pixi/Transit? They OK?

Thanks for the feedback. The Afro story will be unveiled over the next few days. I admit that it was not the best of teasers, but we did get you read it twice ;).

Afro will scale its social media & content team rapidly over the next 48 hours (done & dusted with the interview process).

Once again, thanks for your feedback.

Hmmm… There was (& is) a ‘false door’ behind the Afro logo. A controlled experiment where via simple tracking, 65% of people who arrived on that page, (curious ones) did click and ended up on our blog - http://blog.weareafro.com.

Thanks for the feedback!

Thanks for the feedback. However your guess is absolutely wrong. Imagine someone in Kinsasha or Luanda seeing a picture of the Lekki - Ikoyi ‘suspension’ bridge… His guess would be as good as yours. And you wouldn’t blame him/her.

Hint: Think of some beautiful cities in Africa from Cairo to Cape Town. Amazing possibilities e.g www.tastemakersafrica.com.

Once again, thanks for your feedback.

There is enough space in the skies for birds (& planes) to fly without colliding. Does Uber have to lose (or be ‘beaten’) for Afro to gain traction or market share? I don’t think so. But I may be wrong.

We differentiate ourselves with a number of key features which we will definitely point out in our marketing communications and Afro story.

Transparent, known-upfront, on-your-terms (still has to be reasonable though) pricing. You know how much you will pay ab initio before being picked up. And absolutely no surge pricing.

No surge pricing. No surge pricing. No surge pricing.

We are glad you engaged with us. Stay tuned. Rides will be free at certain #HappyHour periods especially this Friday #TGIF.

As mentioned in a previous post, those who do content and community have already been hired today to come do their thing.

My JD as GM is totally different and I intend to do my job & lead a team of ‘others’ to do theirs.

I bet the curious ones will make your biggest customers. Good luck.

ok good to know it is African. Interestingly i did use Afro sometime last year.

I truly wonder if the taxi space in Nigeria is big enough for all the taxi services around.

What font is that on the index page?

Okay, i’ll admit i’m now curious.

Hi @xolubi I apologize if I came across as rude. I totally did not intend to do so.

Now for the tl;dr version.

We have stayed very, very lean throughout this trying period through the “Trough of Sorrow”

However, I do know that when doing A/B testing and other UI/UX practices, fake doors, false doors and hidden doors are often used to validate what actions a user will take or not take. Most times, these meaningless arguments (e.g. Sign Up vs Signup vs Register OR Log In vs Login vs Sign In vs Signin OR Close vs Cancel) can burn valuable time and kill teams. The best thing to do is to put it “out there” and get user feedback as instantly as possible.

If we had shipped the new Afro on April 29/30, this is the landing page you would have seen - http://unbouncepages.com/may-day-relaunch/

(Yeah, if all goes well, that might be the page you see tomorrow May 8, 2015 and of course I will change the date from May 1 to May 8)

But, how many software teams in the world ship on time and on budget, right?

Once again, and I’m not being sarcastic or patronizing, thanks for your feedback.
