As smart people, you could have noticed that paying Rent might no longer be feasible. The quality of complaints here - Lagos House Rent is indication enough. As this dude said Here, I find it weird that most people here had no qualms having a roommate in the University but all of a sudden, after graduation, wants to form “Made” by getting a flat alone!!
In most cities around the world with real estate costs like Lagos, Roommate culture is strongly entrenched. This our Nigerian mentality of Big Boiz will not kill us. Even Mark Zuckerberg shared a flat with 6 (!!!) others while building Facebook. So if you think your rent is too high, just shut up and get a room/flatmate.
Shameless plug (yeah really ): In my last year in school, I created a piece of crappy webapp to find a Roommate in my University. I just retooled it for the Radar community and I hope you find value in it. You can use it to find a Roommate or flatmate all na the same thing. who knows, you might even get married like these guys Here.
Note:
that the value of it is only in how many Radarians sign up.
I already said the software isn’t the best around but it works so don’t advise me. I don’t need it
I really wanted to use that my domain name for something important. So vote with your clicks.
So, I am not sure your approach of assuming people are trying to form made is right. I’m pretty sure tons of people have flatmates for the purpose of splitting rent in Nigeria too, just as you would find recluses living alone in expensive cities around the world.
Pretty much everyone who isn’t averse to sharing a space with another human and has willing friends with a mutually beneficial location is either living with a flatmate, or has once lived with a flatmate, so you can shove your condescension. Seriously, How often do you see normal single people struggling with finances and maintaining a two bedroom apartment? Also, I am not sure why this is a thread on its own when it could have well been a response to any of the two threads you referenced.
I am unsure why you think people find it difficult getting a Flatmate because in your words “They want to form Made”, if you did read through the this thread Give me a Roomate or I DIE some possible reasons were listed why some persons just like i do, would find it difficult getting a Flatmate.
I do think it best to merge both your proposed solution(this thread) with the Give me a Roomate or DIE thread, should be better as one.
@87_chuks Dude. I mentioned that at the beginning so it not an issue. But bear in mind that this is not how I feed. Go through my profile and you will see that I love building things and I have no qualms deleting that code. Plus I had that domain since like Nov 2015
@xolubi . Dude why are you always vitriolic? Take a chill pill. (I heard u make good pasta though). U said tons of people. How many people have you seen? Stop assuming. Its on a new thread becus, Yes I can.
@Daniel_Aribiton Its more often than not that people choose to live alone in Lagos. More often. The culture of flatmate is hardly there unless they were bro’s before coming to the city. Just like people find it weird patronizing those brave Nigerian guys who listed on Airbnb.
When something doesn’t make financial sense again, It better to find a solution. Under the bridge or flatmate. But as per Nigerians, we wont hear. That’s why most Nigerians on earning just a little cash go out and buy 2 cars when they clearly cannot maintain it. Drive for Uber, na wahala. BIG MAN SYNDROME.
The replies you got where still painfully addressing your flatmate / rent woes.
I simply called their attention to the fact that this is a product thread of sorts. Far from having requested any serious discussion regarding flatmates and whatnot.
None of my business, but you’d have a hard time proving statements like this.
The burden of proof is on you to show how Nigerians are different from others (i.e. struggling to maintain an apartment with two or more bedrooms but refusing to get flatmates). I on the other hand, just have 10 years of living with flatmates and alone in both Lagos and Abuja coupled with well-balanced observation, to counter your arrogant generalization.
I’m happy you are driving for Uber, or are you a big man?
P.S. About the pasta, I don’t mind having you over for farfelle with my patent pending turkey & gizzard sauce next time I’m in town. Let me know.
