Why do you go to tech events?

It is a funny joke that you go Tech events in Nigeria to do three things:

  1. Eat good food,
  2. get souvenirs and
  3. meet people while doing these.

As startup founders, you probably attend events for the third reason, which is networking in order to generate new leads for your business. Recently, I attended a Tech conference, I did some things differently and here are the results I achieved.

Actually, another reason to go to Tech event was free WiFi…but now that data has crashed

Meet people.

  1. Eat
  2. Eat
  3. Eat
  4. Ask for More.
  5. Meet New People while eating.
    Thanks!

I am on a healthy lifestyle diet (not because I am sick oooo ) so the food part does not always work for me

BTW! How will you start a conversation while munching your food…? That’s the secret of NETWORKING.

Eat and meet people

Guess you have never tried it? but trust me, that is “always” the best time to start a conversation. The inspiration from the food would do just fine. :joy:

I agree with you @Kofacts, that is why one should learn how to initiate such conversations. In the article referenced above, one of the resources highlighted how to spend your time, minute-by-minute with each person you meet.

Many of us underestimate the power of socialising to our business, thinking it is a distraction to more important things (like writing codes)

Let’s I forget, most 10-figure deals are completed over a game of golf or a bar sometimes

How am I just seeing this thread? Not attended an event in Nigeria yet but I’ve become quite the tech conference whore. I go to eat and it’s starting to show! :frowning:
Seriously though, to meet people. And follow up on leads. My company’s first bit of legit funding was got from someone I met at a conference.

Baba kofacts! U never stop getting inspiration from the least expected of places.

I’ve only gone to one tech event and I would say that the air around the environment and the meeting of new people as well as the sharing of experiences is a major reason why I fancy such events.

This thread is a perfect complement to make you look like a badass - the bride of the party at your next tech event :partly_sunny:

Hmmm… Just stumbledUpon this thread now, and wondering where was I all this while. Nway, I’ve never gone to any tech events and missed the last MTN Tech Event by a few inches. But I’ll love to go to tech events for the same number 3 reason. NETWORKING! LOL I could as well go to weddings for the food.
