Why are some Nigerians overly pessimistic? and what is the future of the next generation of entrepreneurs in Nigeria?

Thank you for taking your time to read it. I couldnt be any shorter, in trying to talk about Vital areas affecting the Nigerian society.

Please read my comments here

Its not even so much about if the job posting what done right or wrong.
Its more about these response attitudes, and the negative effect it has on the next generation of entrepreneurs.

And even if someone feels something is wrong/stupid…

I wish I could love this more…most quora topics and comments inspires and educate. No wonder even Barack Obama comments on quora and no wonder most developers who commented on how their typical days starts says they take a moment read and contribute on quora. Hell am not comparing Quora with Radar…but Be Nice, Be Respectful, Inspire and Be Positive is a trait worth emulating.

Apparently, you don’t spend a lot of time on Quora. The level of sarcasm (& good old negativity) trumps what you find here.
That doesn’t mean I’m in support of senseless negativity, though.

Some of the points where redundant like you mentioned here & like I did there.
That’s like saying I need a senior Java developer, and go on to also list JDBC, reflections, generics, inheritance, polymorphism, Collections API etc.

Sadly, this is true for the most part.

Oops sorry just re-reading it, the lengthy part was the explanation i thought it was the description of the job.

Do you have any proof to back this up? If this is true, I should have been way smarter then; but I’m not the dimmest of the bunch, so I should be grateful to my parents for going easy on me.

Michael Jackson started around that age. He had his ass whooped often. So, moot point.

If you frequent Quora, you’d know some (very smart) people are leaving or have serious complaints about issues such as moderation, racism, stupid comments, stupid questions etc.
Some have gone to the extent of disabling comments to their answers.
Wherever you have humans, you’ll have to deal with the problems associated with them (be it on Radar or on Quora).
Also, Radar & Quora serve entirely different purposes & are about as similar as apples are to oranges.

As well as amazing criticisms & sarcasm.

They just haven’t grown enough, they lack self discipline.

Some even have no genuine reason to being that way, they re just hooked into the energy others bring forth
they still might not believe it’s peer pressure, but 2 years from now (hopefully), they will look at their reactions and realize how being negative have messed up and hindered a lot from them.

When they eventually grow, even if it’s by mistake,they’ll realize that with their attitude;

  1. They can’t lead or be a good leader.

  2. They can’t work with a team

  3. They can’t establish real connections

  4. They can’t grow

  5. They can’t make a good sales person

  6. They can’t create things people will regard (what you give out is what you receive)

I understand @sugabelly is trying to say that the “criticism” is the hook model which succeeded in making radar something ,well,it’s like a porn site, it will keep some type of people in,and kick some other kind of people out (The right kind of people),This is not a critics forum,i can’t even remember what it is anymore but if it was a rotten_tomatoes for tech and startups, then it should be that on an officially level like ive pointed out before ,than having newbies ambushed with hip of reactions which constitute a negativity bias, something complained of too often is not cool anymore, you guys are over doing the whole toughness thing

This is not the military home , if you re a coder and you’ve used stack-overflow ,you will know what really encourages higher standards.

Bashing at people’s ideas or notions or products might encourage some, but the higher percentage would experience the opposite effect.

But think about this,if some one brings an idea or whatever and we have smarties on radar politely suggesting “smarter and better ways” to achieve it,BOY! no one needs to tell the OP to edify himself, in fact he/she would have already gotten his first round of edification from the smart suggestions , if he doesn’t feel outdated or poorly informed on his own to know he needs to aim for higher standards, then it’s his problem.

no body is begging for cute treatments ,we re just asking for discipline and matured mentality. this is why Nigeria is the way it is.

No I don’t spend too much time there but the little time I spend provides constructive, meaningful content/value. How Ironic. And No I disagree that the level of sarcasm and negativity trumps what is here. But if am wrong, then Quora does a good job of hiding it.

That’s all that matters.

What is HN please?
I’m a fake developer. :joy:

This doesn’t event need any scientific proof. Compare the average kid in Nigeria, with the counterpart in the Western world. Why do you think we lack many innovations here?
And yes numerous studies have been done. See this, this, this and this.
Some people have realised this and corporal punishment has been banned in Lagos state and some others for example.

Those are mostly trolls and they do this with fake accounts.
But here people do it with their real Identity.
And some of them need to asked

And Quora takes harassment very seriously and if you report, they ban accounts, be it a genuine account one or not. Quora discourages attacks on people or their content.

And almost 95% of the users you find there are real genuine users.
The general perception of Quora positive. Quora is very informative, very educative.

It is not cool to be sarcastic and rude.
The Be Nice, Be Respectful (BNBR) is there to keep the quality of the site.
I quote

When users begin emotionally arguing instead of respectfully discussing, everyone (including lurkers and observers) stops learning.

In Quora, you get answered by very intelligent people. By the very best.
The community gives you a sense of a *intelligence. There is a feeling of trust.
People are very nice and polite. The popular users are those with brains.

I have highlighted my main concerns in this comment.

And created by them. Please try to compare average gathering of Nigerians with that in a Western/European country. You will perceive an enormous difference. Chaos vs Orderliness.
It is even evident in our National Assembly and meetings of some of our leaders.

I prefer that this forum emulates Quora, as opposed to something like Nairaland. That site is destroying Nigeria, and it has a great reach.

Here people complain and respond negatively about grammar or typographical errors. Please read what I wrote regarding this in my post

I cant, but only pray and hope for a better Nigeria.

What happens on this forum can be compared to Jungle justice you see on the streets. I believe there are “admins” here…Why not let them police the community??.

Nigeria’s biggest problem is the mindset - the way of thinking.

This is it!!!

On Quora for example, you find the President of America.
There are people like Mark Cuban, Jimmy Wales, Brian Chesky, Sheryl Sandberg etc.

In America, for example. There are tens of thousands of people to look up to.
In Nigeria, how many people can you see as a role model?.. I can only name a few like Tony Elumelu, Sanusi Lamido, Aliko Dangote, Mitchell Elegbe, Folorunsho Alakija and some others.

On Quora, most experts find time to interact with others.

I doubt if some of those distinguished Nigerians visit this forum, not to even talk of creating an account or even participating. And this could be helpful for the next generation.

Positive energy move with the speed of sound. Negative energy moves with the speed of light.

And

Young people need to be inspired!!!

Maybe these people weren’t showed love in their childhood. That is why they act this way. Or maybe its just sheer ignorance.

It’s either you are not aware of what’s happening in the country or you are just in denial.

Which country??
Life is the same everywhere. It is only your mind that differentiates your perception and your outlook.
Negative people see negative things…Positive people see positive things.
You need to understand that their is nothing like the whole world!.
There is only your own world, which is your perception of the world. While you are seeing the negative things and moving backwards, some other people are seeing the positive things and moving forward.
Be wise… Everything is happening at the same time

Nigeria is an environment with lots of failure. It can only breed disbelief and negativity as a default emotion. But for a young country it’s totally and mentally wrong to think this way. Being optimistic is the gift of youth. It’s why the fountain of creative expression is found in the youth. The great things happening in Nigeria is because of the energy of the youth. Music, movies, fashion, football.

I don’t know where to start with this one but let’s just say with time you will learn to reconcile being realistic with being optimistic. I think you have been reading those motivational books, they are really good but don’t lose touch with reality my brother.

No…I am not reading motivational books. I am a motivational book myself.
Like I said earlier, everyone has their own reality.
Do you even believe in God?
If that is the reality you chose to live in, then so be it. But please dont spread it to others.
Even if there a big problems, every problem has a solution.
And if there is no solution, well then it isn’t a problem to start with.
You can either decide to see the glass, half empty or half full.

ps: One word of advice, stop watching the news too much.
It makes you think the whole world is in chaos. Try to see the peace around you.
:v:Peace
