Which Hosting company would you recommend for a music sharing/streaming website

What’s up people, I am currently working on a website. Basically the website is about music sharing, users can stream online too. And so I know i’d need a reliable host that allows audio streaming and stuff. I did a research on websites that give such services like my.notjustok.com, iroking.com, mytruspot.com, mymusic.com.ng and other music websites, I discovered that most of them use amazon hosting. Any recommendation would be appreciated. I’ll also appreciate info about cloud storage and stuff. Thanks.

Dear @veekthur

Firstly, it is NEVER a good idea to consider shared server for this kind of project: the risks and downsides are too many.

I know that Amazon Web services are fantastic will blow your mind. It is literally the king of the cloud business with $7 billion annual revenue.

But that is not what I am using for hosting because that is too technical for me, I can recommend DigitalOcean. You can simply pick a droplet and launch your music streaming site on the cloud.

My site currently runs on:

  1. DigitalOcean server. Spoil yourself on a $10 droplet
  2. Zoho Email to manage my email. There are other cool features in their CRM suite
  3. CloudFlare CDN is good for CDN management and preventing DDOS attacks on your server
  4. Amazon SES for sending email notification. This is the reason to use them: They are damn cheaper than MailChimp

If you are bootstrapping, you can go for free plans on items 2 & 3, spend 5USD on the smallest DO droplet, put your card on Amazon to be charged later and you could be in business in a day with only $10 (if you factor in miscellaneous charges)

Won’t that be FUN.:joy:

BackStory: I recently moved SpokenTwice.com to DO’s $5 droplet and have seen noticeable IMPROVEMENTS

Thank you very much @spokentwice

This doesn’t answer the question on storage though… and while we are on that subject, I would say nothing beats Amazon S3. Especially when you want to consider all the tools that have being built over the years to integrate with it. Sure, DO for application hosting is fine.

Thanks fam!.

I concur with @xolubi on the storage matter. DO might be good for development/testing, but when it comes to storage, I think you should consider Amazon S3.

Cloudflare CDN is good and they have free option which will reduce the amount of Bandwidth your server uses. This example shows how you can use Cloudflare CDN with Amazon S3 as backend: https://support.cloudflare.com/hc/en-us/articles/200168926-How-do-I-use-CloudFlare-with-Amazon-s-S3-Service-

i will personally recommend Hostvow.com is a Nigerian leading provider of Web hosting, reseller hosting, Wordpress hosting,VPS hosting, Cms and dedicated servers

i will recommend a cloud hosting service because of the sensitivity of your site(music sharing/streaming). naturally amazon web service will come to mind but there are a couple of other cloud web service providers too. cloud servers provide features like latency, unlimited bandwidth and a scale-able web host plan(STart with what you need initially and improve later) which i believe your site will need

I’ve checked out AWS, and i’d love to work with it. But like @spokentwice said, it’s pretty technical.
I won’t mind a link to a good tutorial on Amazon S3, and EC2

here is a link to their documentation page Amazon web service tutorial hope you find all you need here.

Why? Besides maybe the fact that you work there. This is your second post on Radar and the first was also peddling hostvow. Also, there are no dedicated server plans as you implied.

Hi Veekthur,

You can also checkout : Microsoft Azure azure.microsoft.com (Its what we use for NerveFlo)
Its as scalable as AWS with some good cost savings if you can get on Bizspark… plus the server dashboards analytics are amazing.

Cheers.

Thank you sir @silasneo

Cloud computing is the new oil.
Even Google is at the game too. #lol

I found this Google vs AWS comparison that explains feature of each from a developer’s perspective.

Right now, i think Amazon is a clear winner because of the varieties of services they have.

In addition to @ValentineO advise above, you can check the certification page for training tutorials

Sites like lynda also offer trainings on this.

Mehn, you guys have no idea what your contributions to this post have done to my brain. God bless your hustles sirs. Thank you very much.

@veekthur though not long I joined techcabal radar. I’m impressed with the team spirit here. Nice one guys. Speaking on the subject matter, AWS and going by their range of services would be okay for your music site. I’ve personally used their SES with sendy.co for email marketing. I can say it’s cheaper than most platform. Though I haven’t used AWS personally, I would recommend them. I currently use BuffaHost.com. they offer wide range of services as well. N affordable quality service.

Thanx @gowa

@veekthur. This is my reply to your post: Recommended AWS Cloud Services for Web Applications. I had to create a new topic because it was quite long.

Cheers!
