Where would you say is the Yaba of Nairobi?

In the spirit of making this community more international, I would like to ask “what location will you say is the Yaba of Nairobi”. Now by Yaba of Nairobi I don’t mean the place that has the most tech accelerators and incubators (like Ngong Road), I mean the place that has the most Yaba like characteristics. This means

  1. Close to some technical universities and colleges
  2. Large concentration of young people
  3. Mid range in terms of cost of real estate
  4. Central location with a lot of good transport options

Bonus points if it has fibre or some kind of special government concession.

I didn’t stay long enough in Nairobi to be able to answer this question, but @erik and @macharia can.

I was trying to figure out what the real feel of Yaba is, but likely hard to do that without being there. Seems like what you’re describing is more like what we find in Buru Buru.

Though there aren’t many universities located in that area of East Nairobi. Our universities are a bit more spread out - besides Univ of Nairobi they are found on the outskirts of the city with satellites within the city (8 of which got shut down today).

Might be worth getting some others from Nairobi thinking about it as well though.

Well, JKUAT main campus and Juja by extension has Moi University of Eldoret to beat in terms of what you described. They don’t have much yet but they have growth potential. Especially Moi university because proximity to Nairobi stifles growth of Juja as a hub of tech even with JKUAT as the main tech university.
