I have had some bad experiences hosting websites with a few Nigerian hosting sites. Makes me wonder where startups like Jumia, Hotels.ng, etc etc host their .ng domains. Any ideas?
They have their own private servers where their apps and services live. domain name registration is another thing entirely.
They have their private servers? Hosted in Nigeria? Are you privy to some privileged information? I seriously doubt if they host their assets in Nigeria.
You really read “private servers” as servers packed in a rack in one “server room” in Nigeria? Really?
LOL
Round of applause!!! I stand in awe of your communication skills.
Okay @D_Malik_Abiola, I also had the same idea @pystar had concerning your first comment, so clearly someone wasnt communicating effectively.
Private servers does imply the companies have their own machines and it is logically correct to assume that they have them in Nigeria…because they are Nigerian companies.
Thank you.
*takes bow
By the way, this is all just bants for me. Don’t take offence abeg.
Well, unfortunately I can’t help what you think. But it’s okay.
Also what do you think about this --> [I am Mark Essien, Founder of Hotels.ng, ask me anything!][1]

@MrNaydu The link also answers your question.
Up till recently, most web hosts supported .ng domains. Today you can host with Linode (after all, all you need to do is create an A record and point to your IP) or any other cloud provider.
There’s also Web4Africa, GigaLayer and WhoGoHost. I understand their services are decent.
Thanks guys. Appreciate the feedback and recommendations.
They host mostly with AWS
Are you asking about domain nameservers or about where to host a domain on? Because either way, both questions are wrong.
Understand that where you host a domain, be it .ng, or .net, or a .com, is of equal parity. So your question should instead be “where’s the best place to host a domain”, which in itself is a subjective quality, based upon multiple variables, such as your requirements, dedicated or shared services, your personal expenses, experience, and so on.
Regardless, I mostly use AWS EC2 instances for mustapha.org, and Linode for other things. I have in the past used AWS’ Route 53 nameservers for .co, .ng, .net domains as well. Integration was rather seamless.
Do try to understand the problem you have, and ask questions that make sense in future, else you’ll find yourself receiving responses that make as little sense as the questions you’re asking.
P.S. I don’t know a single Nigerian company that self-hosts servers locally, but instead find that most use some sort of dedicated VPS. A simple whois would prove this.
Maybe Interswitch? Once heard they were building a farm here. Don’t know how true that is.
I dug a little by searching on google where Konga.com is hosted. This is what i got, i think it should help

I further traced slicehost.net and this is where i landed:http://www.rackspace.com/cloud/vps/
But undoubtedly, the company is operating a VPS and not powered or located in Nigeria.
And more domain can be hosted anywhere. But websites or Online startup hosted anywhere is regrettably lugubrious.
Say what? ![]()
What i meant is online businesses or startups should first research where and how best to house their website to avoid loosing clients due to poor Cloud infrastructure.
