Im happy that Paga is doing well in Nigeria but there is something Im missing. Paga has 8,850 agents, over 3 million users, has made 17 million transactions equating to about $1 billion but yet they have only 10,000 Android App Downloads and according to Alexa & SimilarWeb, about 50,000+ users come to their site monthly. Like can someone please clarify what I am ignorant of? What am I missing or not seeing because it is not adding up.
I thought the whole mobile money thing is done through USSD. Am not sure how that is measured with some of the criteria you mentioned.
Okay thanks fam. So it is done through USSD. I didn’t see that coming. Probably SMS as well like M-Pesa so more than likely MNOs are probably taking their cut and getting a share then, right?
That is where I think most of their transactions come from.
Thanks again for letting me know. Everything adds up now and makes sense. I really appreciate it.
You are welcome brotherly.
Have A Good Wednesday & A Great Successful Week!!!
I keep wondering who are the people that use paga. I have never met anyone who is a paga user, but I don’t know a shit load of people, so…
Of the 3 million registered users, only 800k are active, that is 27% registered of their users are active. Active meaning you need to make a transaction in 90 days or something along those lines. I think that’s a low percentage.
Can you register with your mobile phone too?
@oviosu did an AMA on Radar recently .The answer to the usage of Paga should lie somewhere there. You can check it out.
Thanks, I know about the AMA.
Thanks for the AMA.
I feel you and I was on the same page as you until Mr. henryC said that most transactions/users are in USSD. Most likely SMS as well (like M-Pesa). I mean even if they have 800,000 active users, those numbers aren’t showing in their downloads or on website visits. Or maybe the tools that Im using are wrong.
In addition to USSD, some of these transactions will also be via APIs integration with partners sites or POS payment. Take for example their announcement here: Paga For Business
I also believe that the transaction value of individual purchase is HIGH which is what might be responsible for the total transaction value of N220,000,000,000, 000 (N220 billion) in today’s exchange rate. Mere purchases of N200 MTN VTU will not move the needle.
My 2 kobo view.
