What medium do u prefer for reading books

Modern day books like: The lean startup, Zero to one, The power of broke, 80/20 and similar books are everyone’s favorites, such that even if one hasn’t read them, one would have heard ppl talk about n recommend them.

How do you read/prefer to read these books?:

  1. Hard copy
  2. EBook either via a tablet or a phone
  3. Audio book

Lemme guess, a radar survey to gather data for your upcoming book startup? Yes?
I’ll bite.

I consume lots of fiction in paper backs. Flipping through the pages, adds a certain level of excitement to the story. Interestingly, I hardly care less if I eat through books in electronic format…

As regards audiobooks, the only audio-appended things I tend to grasp, is music and moaning sequences…

Lol, not really a startup per se.

I had a need recently wc ignited an idea in my head.

The need was:
I wanted to read Eric ries Lean startup book in hard copy, n I didn’t have it. So I thought to myself that see me oh! I have quite a few books in my shelve here gathering dust n I’m sure other ppl too have books (including d Lean startup I wanna read) that’s gathering dust on their shelves. Why can’t there be a social lending platform where I can list such books(or items) for leasing such that any one who needs them can borrow them probably for a fee n return them when he/she is done.

I prefer audio. I subscribe to audible.com and I am currently reading the lean startup. This helps me convert the Lagos traffic hours into productive time. Hard copy books are for airport lounges and plane cabins.

P2P… I could smell it, right from your opening reply…

Constraints on this may likely include, a gap in the demand/supply curve, that is, having more borrowers than available lenders, or perhaps, even the other way round. Considering the notion that, the black man isn’t entirely fixated on books.

seriously?

There’s some truth to that, although it’s not only the black man these days…

Do you have empirical evidence from a study or are you drawing your conclusions from Hollywood and stand up comedies. We have lots of bookshops filled with books and we have a lot of black authors. Just go to any airport or God is good motors park and see the myriad of books on sale. I am curious to know who is reading them.

I do NOT agree with this statement.

I’ve had this idea before. Funny enough, I’m the only one in my household that doesn’t read books.
Anyway, making this a tech thing (i.e building an app) is one way to go. But back then I thought of partnering with fast food chains that will host bookshelves where people can donate and borrow books. That would only work if someone up top is really into books. Also, I’m thinking Cafe Neo might be open to such. Simply provide the shelf, create membership cards and get people to donate books.

Millennials as a group have been said to read less; that’s why I said that notion is not exclusive to the “black man”.

Which ones exactly?

You see book on sale, not books being read.

Well, if you have been selling tomatoes for a very long time and nobody is buying. The basic laws of economics demands that…
a) You stop selling tomatoes
b) You move into something else…dunno, cassava.
c) You pray that, for some reason, people start buying tomatoes. A Nigerian favorite

As for the comedies. Please, just google. I am not being condescending. Providing a response will generate spam. There are boatloads. We need to start writing our own narratives

I asked you for them, as there are intelligent comedians and the other ones. I would like to know which you think I’m learning from with regards to Hollywood.

It’s not war, Bro. You asked. I declined to provide. I believe the topic up for discussion is medium for books. No need to derail. Perhaps, you are not a fan of American TV?. Fortunately, there is google

It definitely isn’t war, but you should state things you can’t substantiate, Sir @Lord_Commander.
That’ll be all from me on this.

lol. permission to carry on granted.

Nothing beats paper, but I own a Nook, and I’m in the market for a Kindle.

I use a Kindle. Epubs are my favourite. Physical books look good on shelves too but don’t give me access to dictionaries or allow me to move them easily.

I’m guilty of this. I wish I read them as fast as I stock them.
