What is the best way to monetize a website?

I do not know the best way to ask this question because I don’t understand a thing about how to use adsense and other ad services.

I have done research and so far, it has been to no good, just documentations upon documentation. i want something that works for real.

I have eqully taken time to read through posts like, THIS and still do not understand why Adsense in particular has been very difficult.

Why is adsense most preferred and what other ad service is as good as adsense?

Many websites that write about adsense alternatives still use adsense, what is the magic and how can i use it? Please help.

Thanks.

Is your question “How to make money via adsense or similar ad services”? If that’s your question, then I can’t really help you there.

But if your question is really “What is the best way to monetize a website”? Then my answer to you is to make some kind of service that people want and get them to pay outrightly for it.

Every other way is on some long tins…

@Light is right. If you actually want to make money off your website, adsense might not be the best way to go. Figure out a way to get alternate services sold. Even if it happens that you get speaking / training gigs because of the content of your website, that’ll probably give you much more than adsense will within that period.

Did you custom build your website? Because most CMS platforms have simple plugins for adsense. Or are your issues related to registration on the platform?

I have few lines for you.
Using AdSense as a means of monetisation on your website is a good idea but not really profitable at these stage on the Internet.
There are other ways of making money on your website. Google could give you a better result on that but make sure you use an appropriate keywaord with. “In Nigeria”

In as much as you’re trying to make money from it. Have you really solved the problem you created the website for? Something that drags your potential visitors back to your site again. Have you?

If No.

Then.

Solve the problem before looking for their money.

What are the options you have outside Google Adsense?

  1. Affiliate marketing. Read the account of @Ogechi_Daniel_Ndukwe

2… Consulting services. If you are good at what you do, you can offer consulting or speaking engagement. (Shameless plug: SpokenTwice has helped me connect with clients. I was surprised when someone - a Senior Special Assistant/Adviser to the current Vice President sent me an email

3…Sell a product Turn your idea to ebook to sell or sell something sha

The reality is that if you are not building a highly trafficked website, monetizing via Google Adsense is not smart enough.

A quick tip: Whatever you do, make sure you build your email, list. It is the lifeblood of business.

True! Email marketing is the bomb!!. I value it more than anything else on my website. Did a small tweak in July and BOOM!! My email list EXPLODED!!.

My next plan is to monetize in such a way that it continues to offer value , yet still make sales.

Sorry dude… the ad model is dead. If you can’t build a product that people will want to pay for.
Sigh; quit anything relating to internet.

You can read through my recent blog (hosted this year though) if you could find something useful.

My JARA! If the website idea doesn’t meet my 3P formula; I bet you, monetization will be difficult.

P - must solve a Problem

P - Must have a lot of People looking for a solution to the problem

P - They should be ready to Pay for the solution

NaijaFoodTherapy is just a week and some days old…the traffic alone is growing every day…Not just because it’s all about food but met the above 3P formula.

@Ogechi_Daniel_Ndukwe, how about your older sites? Do they all meet the 3P formula? How successful are they currently?

In Nigeria, one can easily meet the first 2P the last is where the problem lies.

There some kind of sites it may not work for.

Yes @Henry_Obinna, all the sites I own and have created for people meet the 3Ps.

Nice,
How possibly can a site that’s not able to meet up with the last P overcome this ?

@Henry_Obinna Resort to private advert like Adsense or complimentary product sale
