Today, we officially launch our music streaming startup

Today, we officially launch www.musiccloud.com.ng to the public of musicians, podcasters and lovers of music in Nigeria. Our dream is to grow aggressively in this side of the world and expand into other parts of Africa as much as we embrace constant innovation.

Musiccloud is a web-app targeted at unsigned artiste, podcasters and lovers of music like said afore. We’ve been in the business since august last year trying to figure out the best time to launch as well as the look and feel; which we finally settled for something quite simple and less complex.

  • On the homepage of the site is an auto radio player that welcomes you with a skip option.

Whilst on the lowkey operation we launched the ‘‘Musiccloud beep’’ (an impressing feature) that enables fans to follow a content owner with his/her phone number in other to stay updated via mobile sms.

Rightly before our formal launch we have been operating on the low-key basis with over 2k registered artiste and 500 plus uploads. Nonetheless, we have seemingly sponsored an accurate musical events of two in port harcourt and already invited to lead an open mic event this easter in UYO.

THIS IS OUR COURSE. WE ARE OPEN TO SUGGESTIONS.
PLEASE DROP IT.
Thanks.

Sorry bro, I was in a dash. check here - www.musiccloud.com.ng

eRRR…Are u following a Sound Cloud + Streaming app model for this and is ur product focused to meet 3 major pain points.

  1. Producer/Artiste/Content Owner: Reduce Digital rip off, help him easily get royalties per download, streaming, usage and promotions…he is focused on getting paid for his stress both known and unsigned…for unsigned quick discovery to help him break out to the public and even for indie group to have a fan and cult following.

  2. Customer/User: Easily listen to songs he loves ( Free of course in this our part of the country unfortunately but then there are minute group of people who pay for good music), get curated mashup of jams their ears must hear or attain, get invited to interact with musicians at events, access music on the go, personalize to each individual taste( A USP if u get it right)

  3. Infrastructure/Environment: Record Label Negotiations and Music Landscape, mash up with artiste and covers, the technology itself, distribution strategy, marketing and logistic.

There have been many before you, everyone has tried, no one focusing on this 3 points than to get plenty people on site and advertise or stream at small amounts using VAS, some have tried subscription, some have tried pay as you use.

We are hoping you get it right.

Ok thanks, i’ll check it out

I concur with you on this, that’s the Model most persons fail to follow with. @pelij Hope you’ll take note

Noted sir… It’s a whole lot of walk.
But we’ll definitely initiate this points.

Lets strip to bare minimum.

From Client Side: Personalize music and artiste discovery to my taste so the best option would be how do people search for songs to listen to, arrange their music library, adding of tracks, artiste and genre they listen to, visuals, music player( some like automated some like building themselves, some like curated, some just plug and play…the trick is in what percentages are this people?)

The thing is, we really can’t grow devoid of a testing ability. That’s what we are signed up for. We’d keep an eye on every bit of activity.

As of now there’s no adding of genre feature. We really do feel to roll it out in a matter of time as well as consider some of the above listed suggestions.

Thanks for your interest in commenting.

Well done! I like the random music, it could help people (like me) discover new music they would otherwise have missed. That said, here are 2 things I noticed:

  1. When I search for something, clicking on the result does not take me to the page for that song, it just refreshes the home page AND starts playing a random song (not the song I searched for).

  2. I don’t think this is a good idea, but maybe it’s just me.

Not expecting this anytime soon, but assuming it’s in line with your strategy, it would be really great if you manage to pull off properly curated playlists that appear at appropriate times like in Spotify (e.g. work-out playlists in the morning/evening, focus-on-work playlists during the day, lazy-sunday playlists on Sunday morning, etc).

Good luck with everything!!!

Great idea.

You’d do well to release mobile apps soon. Even someone like me that’s always on his laptop, prefers to listen to music on his phone.

Yea nice and cool idea. A few humble ideas from me:

  1. The mobile app part is definitely important…it simplifies the whole process. Once it’s implemented, you can then push notifications to subscribers when their favourite or followed artistes releases a new song or teaser.

3. Focus on upcoming artistes, they’re the ones most likely to upload songs and send early signups through their social media accounts (maybe advertising you in the process)
4. Every artist’s aim is to make money and to be famous. Find out ways to make it easy for them to achieve this feat through your app and I assure you, you’re heading for the grammies (or headies).

Once again, nice one (you still have some big room for improvement though  )

“let’s rock this, nigga” is definitely a bad idea

Considered, and thanks for stopping by.

But majority of our target market are nigga’s.

the term is a bit offensive. i’d advise against it, but if you insist, go ahead.

It’s not a term you want to use if you’re trying to run a business.

Pulling the term off, bosses

LMAO! “Let’s rock this, nigga!!” is hilarious. The animated image and all. Not a great idea, but… hilarious.

Regarding the service, it’d be great to have a cursory glance on what the platform is like (without signing up) on your homepage. For example, you can have “Top 5 Hottest Artists/Songs of the week” which is based on the stars/likes that artist/song has gotten. You can display such things on your homepage.

Also, is this mainly for new artists or for ANYONE to “store and share” their music? Might need to reword that. The idea of “Store and share your music” isn’t necessarily congruent with that of “Discover new talent”, but maybe it’s just me.

Depending on what you’re trying to do, there are a lot of great ideas you can implement.

Lol… the concept was to develop funny content on the platform. But fine, since the vote is high. You guys rock.

And nonetheless, your suggestion is noted.

Thanks
