Thoughts on "Whatsnap"?

I’m surprised no one has brought it up here

What do we think about WhatsApp’s update?

Nothing new!
No time!

Some people are swearing by it, but I haven’t touched it.

Totally hate the update… I miss my status… I’m going to downgrade, just to hold on a little longer

Did you REALLY use the status?

Missed status on bbm days…now they’re trying to win bbm babies over.

I hope it doesn’t become a pain like the useless broadcasts i receive daily.

Question…: Do people still use bbm in 2017…i haven’t installed since 2015…

A lot of people still use BBM

I’m not one of them though. :frowning2:

https://blog.whatsapp.com/ says:
“Over the years we’ve received many requests from our users for video
calling, and we’re excited to finally offer this feature to the world.
Thank you for using WhatsApp and we promise to keep working hard every
day to improve the service.”

Well… to me it’s still customer service.
Even though Nigerian ISPs will be rejoicing right now.

The feature isn’t meant for everyone.
Users should just make requests and give reasons why they are hurting.

And If u’re pissed off look these guys ->Skype, Telegram<- never implemented status msg.

It’s good for the simple fact that it’ll keep the old generation away from Snapchat for good. Let them use their own Snapchat and leave us alone. Thanks Mark!

Depending on your contact list, it might be good for marketing your product/services. That’s about it.

There’s already video call on WhatsApp. It’s not the same as the stories abi snaps abi whatever.
My timeline is limited of course, but from what I’ve seen, very few people have used or plan on using the stories feature.

Lmao. Old generation was probably never going to join Snapchat. And the people already there are probably not going to move to Whatsnap and stop using Snapchat.

I’m looking at my parents and I seriously doubt that either of them would use this. Maybe my dad.

In Jan Koum voice: “Thats why we still support the immediate predecessor, DOWNGRADE!”

Honestly, what I hated most is NOT having a true desktop app like Skype and Telegram. It’s tyranny!
And now this? Person no feel write anything again?

So u think u’re the New/NeXT Gen (NG)?
If u’re below year 2000 mark, u’re OG already Ma!

Don’t say that, now you’re making me feel old too.

The upgrade to whatsapp might be more beneficial for brands vs. consumers. Brands can market on one platform and have ads roll out to all facebook channels (FB,Instagram,Whatsapp), essentially reaching billions of people on one click. Think local businesses, customer service, etc.

Was hoping whatsapp to make a money remittance play first.

Performance of whatsapp stories will likely vary across countries. It does seem as if instagram stories has been universally adopted by most users.

Basically, I’ve seen arguments that its a marketing move.
Following this line of thought, the end game could be “paid Whatsapp stories”. With this brands would be able to reach out to their target demographic by using ads based on location which may be determined by the area code (+234, for instance) of the number registered for use on Whatsapp.

The number of my contacts that use it seems to be riding daily.

I guess must of the “older folks” (40+) just don’t update their WhatsApp frequently. They’re still in BC mode.
