The wikisearch scandal

A few days ago I posted some code about using the wikipedia API and as always people had stuff to say about @ozombo and eventually let the thread get closed early. Well I don’t need to address that but I will. Not because I care about the negativity in the comments but cos I want to! And by the way I went ahead and got messages from the admin, some of which suggested I boast about being able to code. I don’t, but yeah I can code. if you have a problem with that you should keep it to yourself. A few points below addressing the haters!

  1. I didn’t steal, but I should have! Picasso goes - good artists copy, great artists steal. I go bad coders try to do everything, good ones copy while the great ones STEAL/FORK
  2. How can you tell the other dude didn’t copy mine?
  3. Why do you pay so much attention to @ozombo? Wakapass na!
  4. I guess all these other pens were stolen also - http://codepen.io/search/pens?q=wikisearch&type=type-pens

And some people compared me to KANYE & TRUMP. You think they are both assholes? Well I’d love to be a rich asshole too and win 21 grammy awards, build one of the most expensive towers in the world, get on forbes(oh! been there done that!) LMAO! and get a chance at running fro president of the most powerful country in the WORLD. Mark was called an asshole so was steve and even gates and here we are using all the things they built!

Finally a tweet from Max Lynch

Observation: new coders are really insecure about how much of the job is copying and pasting (tutorials, docs, etc.). It's okay!

And yeah I listened to TALK by whizkid while writing this.

Scandals typically involve important people.

Hahahahahah. You this man! Well I wouldn’t wanna exchange lines with you. In this case your radar gets one fire when i talk so IMPORTANT kinda fits in the terms of this post and where it lives

Okay sometimes I wonder if this account @ozombo is a bot or something similar. Hilarious can not begin to describe how your thoughts and posts appear. Is the code that powers your human empathy buggy? :grinning:

I have no human empathy @henryC and yeah I wrote a bot call asshole.py

You know what, I blame @lordbanks for encouraging your shenanigans.

So, bro, you were accused of plagiarism, with proof, but then you come back to tell us “its technically okay to steal”. To answer your questions;

  1. great ones fork and add things to it. not present same stolen or in your words, forked code as theirs (in your case, you said, “I wrote this in 10 mins”).
  2. Well, he published his on codepen in June, did you write yours in May perhaps?
  3. No one really does… but to keep the quality of discussion on radar at 6 on a scale of 10, I think its okay to call you out sometimes when you try to BS us.
  4. Check their source(s), they are very different from yours.

And oh… before you ask me what i’ve done with my life and if i can code, let me answer you, "Nothing important really. And yes i can code, but i’m by no means a great coder, at least i don’t think i’m one. I just try to learn as much as possible every single day. And that, i think, is the most important of all. Never stop learning.

Best of luck Ozombo. Say hi to your kid for me.

By the way, I’m a huge fan.
