Radar voting and other stories

Apologies accepted. As I definitely misunderstood you!

Hi, how do I apply to become your younger brother? Lol

lwkmd… I v never seen such a petty discussion… the organisers of the competition set out rules for it. At no point did they say that voting was for only people who were signed up to Radar before the competition… we all know the rules governing online voting and we all know that people are allowed to solicit for votes from friends family etc… in this case customers and clients… if the organisers didn’t want that, they would either have stated it or made it impossible for new sign ups to vote. for instance, some online voting would allow you vote multiple times with the same account, but it was not possible in this case. so let’s not beef the winner on the basis that we didn’t ask those who have good testimonies for our products to testify via voting.

on the other hand, if I’m allowed to think like the business man that I am, the organisers also needed the publicity and as such needed competitors to spread the news of the competition. so I think the least we should do is to congratulate the winner Mr Kachi Eze and the #ActivHotelTeam… My 1Kobo…

Lucky you now, guess you weren’t a science major.

Yh congrats to Mr. Kachi, too bad you ain’t giving out any cash

After spending time on quora.com, I ensure to come here always as much as I can. Radar isn’t just a tech forum, it is hope, because this is someplace that tells me hey, Temmyhlee, you can step up to be a CTO, you can get your own start up, you can learn to be a better programmer and be rest assured that you have a place to talk to people (mentorship or just sharing ideas).
@xolubi daunts me with the way he handles his comprehension (would like to know your secondary school), it solid mhen. This is by the way, so I am so sure why people are trying as much as possible not to make this place adulterated keep it as real as possible.
Just know corruption doesn’t start when you are in a high position, it starts small. If you can’t be trusted with $500, then how on earth do I trust you with a project. #letsLearn and #useUrHead.
My 1 cent.
Lemme get back to work before they tag me as jobless lol.

Admin,
CC: @lordbanks

Kindly make those pitches visible again after settling the Winner.

Thank you.

It will be cheating if it was stated in the beginning that no new accounts are allowed to vote. Instead, halfway through the whole thing, there were new updates. Who does that??? Rules are meant to be set at the beginning not at the middle or the end. Broadcast was already sent out to friends to come on radar techcabal to like. Just so you know, some people have more friends for support than others. Stop hating.

Let me just drop in on this, even though I won’t like to, as this is becoming over-flogged already. It’s not $50,000 folks. A startup competition was announced for the COMMUNITY, that is RADAR COMMUNITY to vote on their favorite based on pitches.

It was expected everyone drop their pitches and exit the thread, carry on with their day and truly let the community decide. Everyone knows what to do really. Then this was observed: A sudden increase in new members sign-ups voting. And that’s fine because everyone is invited(abi na welcome) according to @lordbanks except the following.

  1. These persons are not actually part of the community prior the competition if at all they were genuine. It would’t have been a problem if it was a minor or just a few instances. But it was flood and unreal, homie. It was fake, putting it simply. The usernames were not even great or creative sounding.

  2. It cannot be ascertained those accounts were actual humans. Anyone with enough time on their hands can start creating emails, or request for his friend’s emails to open accounts for the express purpose of voting.

Either of the above cases were not envisaged, and both were gaming if truly you want feedback from the community in terms of likes. The above was found on seeing weird accounts voting with funny usernames which obviously signals something funny. Now is this a behavior you will like the community to encourage?

There are just unspoken rules in every community, but if however, it is seeming some members are breaking it or not acting accordingly as thought, then a rule is set. That was the call of this post on @xolubi and several other persons expressing their disappointment to the behavior. It was rather disappointing. It wouldn’t have been disappointing if it was expected. If it was expected, new registration during the competition would have been disabled, and we won’t be having this conversation.

Let’s face it. Winning or not signals nothing to the quality of your startup. It’s just how a few techies judge your startups. I have an entry in this, and it might interest you I voted for a couple startups I thought was interesting. Let’s kill this conversation please and move on. There are updates already by the organizers on how they intend to select the winner, let it be.

If you truly want the winner to be Radar’s favorite, then it means valid votes will have to prior-competition likes. Those are the only ones that can be ascertained to be real members since we are on the topic of cheating, and whatnot.

By the way, how many of those numerous voters with fancy name like Rainman, Lolade_lolade, Sugarman, peperempe are here now joining conversations and contributing to the forum. Pick them out, I will wait.

I think the voting process wasn’t given too much thought. And I can understand why, the organizers perhaps didn’t see too many people - especially sleepers in the forum - going through too much trouble for $500.

‘Most likes win’ rule is as untenable as it gets especially for organizers at Big Cabal’s level. This is a top tech forum some other fresh rule could have been tested.

@Kachi_Eze you’re free to justify that nothing untoward was done by singing to your family members and business partners from (LBS and co) to come and vote for a chance at 500 bucks. But you see after you’ve done the above it becomes difficult to claim you had no real need for the money, as your startup gives investors wet dreams.

Update: the results are here.

Thanks for bearing with us. And we’ve learnt much from this edition. Let’s do it again soon.
