ProSynapses basically is a search engine for medics. As a health person (who is also research inclined), I faced certain challenges getting certain kinds of data from the mighty search engine Google.com
So, rather than making a tool for myself, I decided to make something for all (well, for those who might have a similar challenge to mine)
I recognise that there are still a whole lot to do (especially in the algos). There are certain features which would be added with time. But, for now I would really appreciate reviews from tech enthusiasts, most especially, pharmacists, medical doctors, physiotherapists, nurses, medical laboratory scientists, radiographers, dietitians, medical record officers, etc, no matter your area of practice, whether hospital, community, academicians, administration, etc, as long as you are in the medical field, to try out the search engine and compare your results to Google’s result.
This would really help.
Reminds me of https://octopart.com for Electrical Engineers. I used that back in school. It was our Google. Octopart was a YC company by guys doing their PhD in physics and Elect. Engineering but there is always a thing about niche search engines. To me, if I’m embarking on hardware project, Octopart is it.
If you are looking for a microcontroller, Octopart gets you all the quantities, the datasheet, the price. All the important data you need as an Engineer before you decide buying the microcontroller. Try search for: PIC18F4520, Google result is nonsense to anyone making stuff. But Octopart is Hallelujah! That is what you should be looking for your med folks. The more different your presentation from Google, the more awesome you’ll become.
I see you have a med background, which makes you very perfect for this, hence you should find that community and carry on. You’ll never be mainstream but those who know will always know.
I’m not a med. I have no idea what to even search for.
Too many irrelevant ads. If I’m on your search engine, it probably means I’d be more interested in buying Methamphetamine than a power bike or solar panel.
Design must be better. It has to be better.
It’s a very good idea. You’re solving a real problem. Unlike those other guys.
I just searched for Panadol. I didn’t even think drugs apply. In any case, un-google-ized your presentation. I’m sure there is a presentation that appeals to medical professionals.
Your UI sucks for now. Work on it. And too many ads. I’m sure you must have a business model besides ads. Because if not, you should know niche search engines aren’t traffic heavy. It is usually a mix of e-commerce and business partnership with suppliers as model.
@akindolu Thanks a lot for the review.
You understand what I’m trying to achieve here with the scenario you painted. That’s it exactly.
All isn’t finalized yet, but, with little time and dev, it would be.
Points noted and will work on it.
@farouqzaib Thanks for the review.
Yeah. Noticed that too.
Will definitely take down the ads…ads everywhere isn’t a solution…just an outlook at where ads might appear in the nearest future.
But sure, ads will be cut massively.
Noted and thanks again.
@yoowai Design…we will look into it.
Description…will find a way to tune it up.
Recent posts…a tweak in the codes should sort that out to make it more meaningful.
Thanks for the review. Grateful I’m…
@akindolu there’s definitely a different business model to monetize other than ads and that’s about the upcoming “features” I earlier mentioned.
Will look into a better UI, if possible. Just that the common “Google-ized” way of presenting search results seems to be the norm everywhere, even with Bing and others.
Nonetheless, I’m not scared of being weird or different…
Its just that I was just lost when I landed on the site. I could not find any information that told me what I was supposed to benefit from the site.
All I saw was “Your optimized portal to all things medical…”
Google can get away with it because the name google is already entrenched in our subconscious but who knows “prosynapses”… I even had to check that I got the spelling right.
