Those… are not perks at all. Just FYI.
Lol @onyeka …I guess despite no intention of applying for the job yourself…you’re just reporting for the bigger duty of protecting the pay rights of software developers in Nigeria!
Personally, I think the nuances of recruiting talent in Nigeria startup scene is a bit of a black box. However, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with an employer who decides not to disclose remuneration details, at job posting point. Maybe there’s an overall fixation on disclosing wages due to a fear of exploitation. I don’t know.
What will be good is for a startup who’s still small (I.e. not flushed with cash) & ego free (I.e. truthful), to provide the other side of the story.
I’m not asking for renumeration details… or anything really. I’m just pointing out that ‘working with the CTO’ and ‘having a lot of responsibility’ are not job perks. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
To be honest, I know some things are subjective. But in my books, this is not even one of them. The people you work with, are part of the perks of the job.
True story (mine), current earning power is directly related to the people I’ve worked with. Started as a learner (still a leaner), but got lucky and worked with the best. Now able to put food on the table, roof over heads, ensure no child goes out naked…all because of the people I’ve worked with. I don’t even think it as a perk…it’s the no.1 benefit!
Now of course I don’t know if this particular CTO is indeed a rockstar, but benefit of doubt should tell any applicant, this is a risk worth taking.
Perks aren’t subjective. I don’t care about anything else, just the choice of word.
perk
noun [C] UK /pɜːk/ US /pɝːk/
an advantage or something extra, such as money or goods, that you are given because of your job:
A company car and a mobile phone are some of the perks that come with the job.
Ok, I see where you’re coming from. This is probably an interesting one, opened to all sorts of interpretation. So let’s take Sanni looking for a job.
If he takes the offer from Startup A and will mainly work on basic stuff with other jnr. developers.
Or
Sanni takes Startup B offer and works with closely with rockstar CTO. He also gets to do loads of interesting stuff taking on additional responsibilities.
Holding that salary is the similar (or close), is it not fair to say there’s an ‘advantage’ (using the definition you kindly provided) to Sanni in choosing startup B?
PERKS
“You’ll work directly with the company’s CTO and a co-founder of Printivo who will take you under his wings.”
I guess working with the companyš CTO and Cfounder will increase my Salary - Wait, won’t i be working with the CTO already ? or is the CTO a ghost
@PapaOlabode Lol, you are stretching your counter to a simple assertion though. Maybe if you said I would be working alongside the guy who wrote Javascript at Mozilla, maybe… just maybe.
Apparently, the CTO in question here couldn’t even write up the ad for the developer he wants… or maybe he’s just too self obsessed that he refers to himself as his title in third person.
Look at anyperk.com for idea of what perks look like. Perks for example, Uber credits for employees, dry cleaning services, free food round the clock etc etc.
If I get a chance to work directly with God, its a good thing but a perk, no! Its in a class of what it means in terms of my career. Its one of the reason Dropbox hired Python BDFL, Guido van Rossum.
It looks good on you to run shoulder with the actual Guido. But that’s not a placeholder for, or even advertised as perks or benefits.
Economy is tough now, so what do I know or what can I say?
Lol, think of as a genius in the making!
But frankly, maybe I need to be a developer, to read the advert and see that it was poorly written, cheeky or condescending in some way.
At the end of the day, this was a job advert. And we’ve seen quite a few badly written job ads on this platform. In my humble opinion, this is not one of them.
The point we’re all making here is way too simple and you seem to be missing it intentionally for some reason. But it’s all good.
You’re right. I missed it.

We do really appreciate the comments, as a matter of fact, learnt a lot from the conversations on the job post. (What perks are and what perks are not). Turns out that things we see as regular things like employees getting access to their own custom merchandise, - Free coffee pack for you (one a day so you don’t share with anyone), discount from our strategic partners, access to events we sponsor (Which happens every now and then), Coursera courses sponsorship, Our book club and access to books you’ve always longed to read etc are actually the real perks, We will now edit and the job ad to reflect those.
Interestingly, we have received interests from interesting developers who sees what we do as interesting and are ready to join the team. We will continue to learn as we grow.
Nice One !
These are perks…
Interestivo, you say.
