Postman App - Send free message to anyone

I requested for feedback on Postman android app a while back and got some amazing response but then it was just a bulk sms app. While building it, with integrated texting features, I saw an opportunity and decided to create a chat app.

You may ask why I built a chat app with all the chat apps available in the market. Well, I saw somethings that the chat apps I know of don’t have and one is the ability to send messages to people who don’t have the app installed.

Another thing I discovered was that there was no proper support for offline communication or bad internet or when your data runs out (which is common in this country). Well, I tried (really) to fix that problem by integrating postman seamlessly which text messaging. So if you don’t have data or internet you can continue the same conversation with friends using sms and switch back to free chat when you have internet (normal sms charges applies when using sms/mms except you’re the CEO of MTN ) all in the same app. Many chat apps are billed as ‘sms killers’, well, I decided to take a different route and instead make postman work with sms because I discovered sms is still very handy in these parts.

Not forgetting the initial plan for postman, it still works as a bulk sms app, or custom sms as I call it, with plenty amazing features like customized sender id (obviously) which is useful for sms campaigns, advert, invitations and more, ability to schedule a message and send at future date which is useful for birthdays, anniversaries, reminders (Christmas is coming ) etc, and also sending to many contacts which can be uploaded in different forms (from file and phonebook).

All these features and more are available in the app and more. It’s also easy to use (I think) and also beautifully designed (if you’re into that like me :sunglasses: ) and it’s available for free (tho the bulk sms cost N1.50 per unit for any amount).

It’s available for users in Nigeria (I added US and UK because some ip address in Nigeria shows US/UK, weird ) in case it says not available in your country and as usual would love to here from you, and thanks for reading this long post.

For now I use bulk sms for Nigerian numbers but I plan to use sms gateway for the countries that are available, but I’m looking for numbers to test.
No api yet but I plan to create one soon, depending on the demand sha

So if I am not in Nigeria, I can text to anyone in Nigeria who doesn’t have internet?

Like if Im not in Nigeria but I have internet, with this app, I can text any number in Nigeria that doesn’t have internet? Is it possible? Also is there any maximum sms limit that I can send per day?

Yes, you can text anyone even if they don’t have internet but you have to register with a Nigerian no. Still working on international version but you can try it.

No maximum sms limit yet but there is 160 character limit per text. No limit for custom sms but its not free

Okay. How will the international version be like? Your app kind of reminds me of Hike Messenger. Have you heard of them? Do you have anybody working with you? Any partners or co-founders?

The international version will just work with international numbers. I haven’t heard of hike Messenger but I’ll check it out.

For now it’s just me, no partner yet

How do u plan on connecting international numbers with local phone numbers so that one outside of Nigeria can use the internet to send a text to someone in Nigeria (without internet)? Is it possible? How long will it take?

I actually did checkout your app cos I also have a bulk SMS app.

My first question is why do you make it unavailable for tablets when its clear that tablet users need this type of service more than traditional phones.

Nice app. Here is the original link for those interested. I just checked the download link as well. When will your app come out? All it says is it is coming soon.

I didn’t want this to be about my app which is why i posted the video link. I will make a post when I am ready for marketing. I am waiting on marketing budget so should be December. But you can get the windows version if you have a windows phone or a windows 10 laptop.

I dig, can your app be used as a platform for a service? Will an API be made available? With your app and my internet, if Im not in Nigeria can I text someone in Nigeria who doesn’t have internet access but who has a phone line? Any extra fees one should be wary of?

Yes, I already have a system in place where international numbers can send to local numbers with no internet but I need international numbers to test it, once I see someone not in Nigeria interested in testing the app I can then fix any bug

Nice app, but postman is not just a bulk sms app. Do you have versions for all OS available? And I see you are in port harcourt, cool, it’s like everything happens in lagos. I plan to optimize it for tablet although current version will work well on tablet, but I’ll have to test with different tablets first just to avoid stories that touch, and I don’t have access to any yet.

I don’t have a number but I have the internet. Can I use PHP or some other web programming language to send a text to someone in Nigeria who doesn’t have the internet (but who has a phone line) with your app?
