I am a beginner android developer looking to develop an application that helps you :
Find the location of your friends in real time(or the last known location of your friends)
Mark your house or any event centre so that anyone on the application can successfully navigate to wherever that location may be.
Perhaps implement the travelling salesman’s problem.
Those are the major things the application would let you do. I understand that there are quite a number of good applications that do one or more of these things but I would want to try developing this application because I think it solves location awareness problems and maybe useful in Nigeria(especially for directing to an event center for weddings) plus I’ve not really gotten into field of GIS before.
I need tips on major flaws to avoid(especially pitfalls that can cause any major basic security flaw) and also tips to maximize UI, efficiency.
I also need advice on libraries to use incase you’ve done something on this before.
I’ll basically appreciate any advice I can get.

Hi sammyplexus … i once wanted to do something like this having a system/app where you can see your friends location in real time and probably chat with them if you want… But i had one problem which is “PRIVACY”. I felt people wont want to put up their real location up for a whole lot of reasons, what if a stalker gets hold of their current location or it gets into the hands of the wrong person, Or what if i just dont want you to know my current location . So if you have a plan on how to make people using the app FEEL SAFE that should be your major hurdle. Same as for the “Marking your house” thing you mentioned above.
The plan I have for handling the security issue is by ‘friend requests’. You can only access the location of a person who is your friend on the app.
Now that I’m thinking about this, I could also add some other level of control(maybe something like getting a notification if someone wants to know your location).
