Niit diploma in softawre engineering, how good?

My name is chukwuka 23, Graduated 2015 with a degree in Quantity Surveying,

Not Ready for Masters and with a strong passion for IT over QS, I want to learn computer programming.

I have little skills:
HTML(pro), CSS(pro) and PHP(beginner)

Am considering going for a diploma course in Software Engineering at NIIT.

I want to ask:

  1. If NIIT Is the best option for me or is there any better place for me to learn in Nigeria.

  2. If NIIT is Good, which study center is better. I want to go for the Onitsha Study Center. I heard Lagos is better, will there much difference?

Thank You.

Bros download ebooks and videos and teach yourself. Don’t waste your money in NIIT. I studied Teacher Education in the university but I taught my self web development and I am proficient in three languages already. NIIT can’t teach you web dev More than that.

Don’t do it. The only thing NIIT did for me was introduced me to some really talented individuals
It will cost thousands of Naira if not Millions and you will hate yourself after the program

Spend that tuition fee on Udemy Courses.

So, please what do you recommend? No where to learn in Nigeria?

better you checkout video tutorial, or perhaps, if you need a degree or so, then you should consider Udacity Nanodegree.

if you are actually thinking of a physical location to learn here in Nigeria, I will just advice you stick to a video tutorial.

If you don’t find a good enough place to learn in Nigeria, would you consider online courses? Do you have a job or some other source of income? Are you learning because you want to be good enough to get a job someplace nice?

If yes, how about this:

  • Start with free courses on platforms like Codecademy to brush up on the basics and get some practice. Take as long as you need, and check online for practice exercises to solidify your learning. Then (assuming you’re not already doing this,) start marketing your skills to people who might need your help (practice projects are nice but it’s even nicer to solve actual problems for people)

For more ‘focused’ learning:

  • Read the answers to this this (especially the bits about networking/‘selling your market’), and if you’re convinced,

  • Save some money and get an Udacity Nanodegree (costs $200/month and people take maybe 10 months to finish, but if you already learned the basics from free platforms you’ll finish much quicker)

If you actually complete a Nanodegree you’ll have quite a bit of work in your portfolio (along with the actual experience you got in step 1), in which case it’s a good idea to broaden your search to include remote jobs & freelance opportunities outside Nigeria.

*Disclaimer: I’m not a developer, so take all this with a pinch of salt.

Poster , very good of you .
I cannot recommend NIIT to you because it would result to you spending money on stuff you already know since you claim to be very comfortable with HTML and CSS.
I can recommend Swap Space to you, they are in maryland lagos and they just started with their new intakes this week or so . I have a friend that attended there and he has grown from 0 to competent , you can call him on 08020777010, He was also considering NIIT then when they charged him 80k to learn SQL
.here is their website

Chai, do we dislike NIIT so much?

I am hoping to invest in software development training via physical locations this year. Hope people won’t be preaching against my business so much when I get started.

Hey, everyone is right. I attended NIIT several years back, it drew back several years (am not discrediting them, but that is what happens to you when you already have some good knowledge and know where you want to go).
I am a Software Engineer today, and I have watched the landscape over the years so I believe the best option for you is, take your degree(Bsc), buy a very good nano degree on udacity.com, join a serious hub in your area. Attend meetups and mixup. In a few years, you will thank everyone for this advise.
