Nigerian Internet is currently going through content bubble

This is very true… Lack of original and creative content.

Not really, Nigerians don’t value good content except the niche they are created for, Nigerians obviously value Cheap content in general (gossip type). We (brands) are getting to understand more about original content with the rise of content marketing. I think SEO has a huge role to play because people don’t understand it. I won’t mention names but there is a website that spends so much advertising recycled content on their website and barely promote creative content on their website. Their reason is that they get their numbers from those recycled content (gossip and news) this is meant to be a lifestyle site. Their SEO is very poor because of the content but they promote it well. They get good brands to advertise on their site as well

Amen to that. I think the challenge is two-pronged: the need to generate quality content locally and the need to increase the demand and appreciation for quality content.

So far as content goes, I like what TNC ( www.thenakedconvos.com ) and Battabox ( www.battabox.com ) are doing.

I just wish Our Own Area could stick to a schedule for releasing their animated vids :disappointed: and animation is quite hard work tho.

This thread is giving me ideas.

I wish animation in general could be taken more seriously. You only need to look at what the Japanese are doing to see the kind of rich stories we could tell with animation.

I dont quite agree that Nigerians don’t value good content outside the niche its created for. I think what we all need to understand is the peculiar nature of the average Nigerian netizen. We are so unique I must say I’m yet to find similar traits anywhere in the world. The so called intellectuals on Twitter who read these niche blogs also confess to visiting sites like Linda regularly.

If we are being honest to ourselves, the average young Nigerian today is “lazy” - I quoted that because it’s strange how we can hustle hard just about enough to get close to the top and then fall asleep. IT’s evident in all our creative industries - movies, music, radio, tv so why should online content be any different.

If and when you create GREAT content, consistently, people will come. Let us remember that what we consider niche in Nigeria is probably the entire population of so many countries out there.

Of course the big brands have a major role to play here as well. When they begin to value quality over quantity, things will definitely improve faster.

Looool
I only heard of TNC late last year so yeah,so still many out there who are seeking good content but don’t know where to find it.

Wale I agree what I meant was only the people in the niche really value the content and Naked convos is a good example.

Just last year…Its been around for 5 years now or more and it used to be thetoolsmanblog

But TNC is so pseudo-progressive tho…

Lool jk :eyes::hear_no_evil:

Oh? What can I say, numbers don’t need too much explanation…

There’s always some element of truth in every joke.

@thetoolsman stats don’t tell the whole story

On point one - correct. On two, we should tell that to Nigerian advertisers…

AMA fan though.

But who decides what is “good content”?
Who says Linda Ikeji isn’t “good content”?
Why isn’t Linda Ikeji “good content”?
Is Keeping Up With the Kardashians “good content”?
Is a show about wildlife on the Discovery Channel “better” than KUWTK?

Never said LIB wasn’t good content. My only issue is the majority of creators are terrible clones of LIB, which is a problem.

Didn’t say you said so. Just have heard about this Good Content thing so much that I must ask what it is.

“Good Content” is obviously subjective as one man’s treasure is another man’s trash. But I think what @Nosaaaa and the others might be getting at is we lack diverse quality content. Sure, we have a gossip blog that everyone knows about. But Ideally, there would be a Food blog that everyone knows about, an automobile site that everyone knows about, Film-making, Technology, Traditional Art, Nature, History, etc. There is a ton of stuff out there that we could be talking about in Africa.

But you see, it’s quite a challenge getting people to appreciate the hard work and passion that goes into crafting complex pieces of art and technology when they could rather read about which celebrity slept with which.
