I like what you’re trying to do. I mean, who doesn’t have horror stories about tailors?

But, right now I feel your oversabi website looks over-complicated.That’s not a problem especially as it’s not the core value to keep your customers - it’s your customer service.

Instead of just hoping to give great customer service, why don’t you pick a niche to serve? It could be by location, e.g. Ikoyi, Surulere, V.I. or by profession, e.g workers only or even location and profession, e.g. you will only visit workers at office premises on the island.

There’s tendency to over promise in this sort of seemingly large market. I like how 500 dishes started targeting only some areas. Amazon’s famous example of starting with books is always a good one. Starting small is a good strategy.

Also, it doesn’t appear that you’ve positioned yourself as a marketplace e.g. sending orders to 3rd party tailors. So I assume you’re in charge of making the outfits yourself?

You should see what it looked like before if this is complicated. While it’s not a big problem, it is important as it is the face of the business for our online customers and we like showing the website off :grin:. We’ll definitely work on that.

The ‘we hope’ there is just to push my ‘better customer service’ claim, I don’t really know what others (competitors) offer but from stories we hear from clients running from their former tailors we think we are doing okay there.

For the niche, we just cover Lagos (which is quite large) but there is no form ad targeting or anything like that and we just rely on referrals and social media (organic) and it will be difficult to target based on that. We can’t turn down a customer’s friend from Ikorodu in this economy.

No, we are not a marketplace. We are not immune to tailor’s disappointment, not yet anyway, and one of our selling-point is time and also quality. So yes, we are in charge of making the outfits.

I totally understand. And I agree it makes all sense to serve customers that are referred to you. Just be careful that you don’t fall into the trap of many small business owners, ‘going after business’ with no eye on unit economics.

To be clear, there’s absolutely nothing wrong in doing that now. After all, customers don’t fall from heaven. And you need them, to prove your model and operations work.

Moving back to your website - if you’re going to revamp it, think of going simple (reduce clutter), while ensuring you can show off your designs (the pictures you currently have are not exactly great). At the very least, include a form that allows users to contact you with order intent (can include some of the usual questions they ask you via chat).

Yeah definitely go simple. For the pictures, that’s not entirely our fault as we rely on the customers themselves to take pictures and send and not all of them use iPhone 7 :grinning:. And most prefer to send this pictures on whatsapp which affects quality no matter the phone used, you can’t tell a customer how he will send pictures you need to promote your business, you just say thank you. But they look good on social media, you should see our instagram account. You may ask why we don’t take pictures ourselves, well this way is cheaper (again bootstrap things) and we feel it’s more authentic this way.

For the form, we had one up but nobody used it, even customers who came to us through the site. They’ll rather call us or use the livechat, so we removed it to make the site a little simpler.

I’ll definitely consider radar discount when you’re ready
