MTN to pay a fine of N1 trillion plus losing 5 million customers, no thanks to Olu Falae's kidnappers

The DSS has it that the line used in contacting the former SGF’s family by his kidnappers is an unregistered MTN line prompting the NCC toute de suit ordered the telco to pay 200k/each of the unregistered 5 million SIMs
Are we expecting another downsizing anytime soon?

I hope MTN will not steal from their customers , because 1 trillion Naira is too much!

MTN won’t pay the fine.

they might settle for less, but $5 Billion is too much, and I say this as an MTN hater

I sha hope that the customers will not be the one to pay this fine.

Maybe a ‘Ghana Must Go’ situation here…

Like seriously, N1tr? They’re kidding… Watching though…

We all know MTN defaulted the terms but 1trillion Naira is too much o, I think the Teleco company have bin over hyped…Maybe NCC thinks they will be able to pay any Bill thrown at them…and also this is the first time I will see MTN on Newspaper frontpage crying about Money…but we know they won’t pay or it will get slashed ridiculously, especially when you have the vice-president of the country as an investor.

NCC had it predefined that telcos will pay 200k/subscriber after the due date. So its not like NCC just picked a figure. All telcos are aware of this fine for failure to comply. I read on an SA paper where an “international business analyst” claims it is an attempt to extort MTN by de government in a bid to source revenue for Nigeria’s dwindling economy.

As per airtel/glo/etisalat, not sure they wouldn’t consider squeezing NCC for double standards if they change the rules and reduce the fine considering MTN has been earning revenue from those 5million subscribers.
The best NCC should do is have them pay the fine over a couple of years.
Discipline is important.
