Before you create a social network you need users…
bcos you have the capital to advertise does not mean you should start one.
Radar is a social network but it wouldn’t have been what it is without Techcabal… Techcabal already had the users…
If Linda Ikeji, bella naija e.t.c decide to start a social network they will be successful because they already have the users and popularity…
It also depends on the niche, but without users any social network is useless…
It is better for you and your team to make more money with the little you have doing other internet marketing businesses…
Sir, Google plus collapsed last time i checked (maybe they are still collapsing ) and the great Alphabet company couldnt revive it. Its gonna be mothballed like a nuclear plant struck by hurricane.
Sir, Google is a giant in every sense of the word, they failed with Google plus. Google plus is going to be dismembered (sorry that should read “unbundled”). Techcrunch has an interesting read on this.
As at 2003 many people thought myspace and friendstars have done it all ,but facebook came and outgrown them. Twitter and pinterest also came . We don’t want to solve what have been solved by any social network websites; we are solving a different problem. Anyway, you will live to see our success . We take this as a challenge and set to prove you wrong. Thanks for your contribution.
Need? are all the products we love and use necessarily the ones we need? Did the world NEED another social network like like Snapchat or Instagram? Do you NEED radar or techcabal?
Making stuff people NEED and dont WANT kills startups.
There’s a difference with those. You’ve got to cater for a niche, not necessarily a need. They were able to do both n my opinion.
Google wanted to create another social network with Google plus. That’s the problem. Creating just another version of a thing that already exists won’t really fly
Very well. Before you write a single line of code you need to consume everything you can on google plus. Google plus has got great features, the idea was to make it exciting for users but it just didn’t sit well with users.
Difficult to assess the idea in it’s entirety as that will mean you divulging the niche you’re looking to colonise - so that’s a nonstarter.
A niche will fly but you still need to get users to use the platform. Having said that, I sincerely wish you all the very best. The more the merrier the saying goes
Niche? Another version of a thing?
We can’t really explain why Google failed at Google plus other than the fact that Google sucks at almost anything, they do outside Search - which is their core.
It depends on what you want to do and how you want to go about it.
Do keep in mind that at the end of the day, your platform would compete with Linda Ikeji for revenues - you would majorly earn money by selling ad spaces.
Customer Acquisition
Let’s crunch some numbers for customer acquisition using Facebook as your sole channel:
The age group 21-24 has 510,000 men and 340,000 women as users staying in Lagos
With a daily conversion rate of 2.5% (depending on the devices and other factors), you should get roughly 12750 men and 8500 female signups at a cost of $382 and $255 respectively.
Using a cpc of $0.03, you would need a minimum of $19,100 ($11,460 and $7,650 respectively) in order to reach these guys
Engagement: this is another cost that should be factored in else the initial cost will be a waste.
You need to be very scientific about what you want to do and how you want to do it - its good that you are creative, but your numbers have to be solid else you will be stuck.
Well said. He is pretty smart not to clone. I am very happy to see the exciting new social network platform (I am not being sarcastic, I genuinely would love them to succeed)
It’s not about getting me or not. He’s made a fair point about Instagram and Snapchat. We all can argue these points as we deem fit I guess.
This is the premise of my using Google plus as my example. Google plus is crammed with features yet it failed. Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat all started life as a single feature platforms (mostly) before more ‘features’ get added. I would love to see the new systems and features.
Anyways, all the very best to them with the new social networking platform.
