Is a media site focused on research journalism viable in Nigeria

Hi all.

So just wondering about our media space and

Whether there is there an audience for a news-site with similar intents as vox.com or theatlantic.com in Nigeria.

Whether there exists a major research-news startup or a place for such in Nigeria

Quick and brutal thoughts appreciated.

Thanks.

I think, what we have is a blend of opinionated journalism and a mix of news-worthy curation.

Yes. I think it is viable. Nothing breeds more attention than an exposé…

PS: I’m pretty much interested in RJ.

Thanks for the response..

But I’m looking less towards expose than holistic storytelling.

Imagine the current food crisis in the North-east, a news site that doesn’t just say ‘1200 people dead of hunger’

But asks why are they dead (corruption in food distribution? Refugee practices? Quality of food? Answers from diff perspectives), how did they die (not simple answers like starvation). Not just quotes…but actual fact. Considered fact devoid of partisanship or judgement or even useless sensationalism or outrage. Hard cold facts. Condensed into a 5-10 mins read and videa.

Ha!:grin:. That is what I do not really envision.

Excellent titles, not sober, laborious ones…but not so ughhhhh…if you get my point

A research journalism startup is very much required and I believe viable in the Nigerian market. Nigerians and foreigners interested in Nigeria/Africa are forever looking for credible works upon which to base their decisions or advance their interests. Take a hint from yourbudgit.com, nairametrics.com. They are doing well in their own niches.

I know it’ll work. Especially if there’s serious depth in research, but it’ll cost you a lot of money and time before the books can get balanced. if you are boot strapping I will rather recommend you get paid by international platforms for research first, and use the funding to build on.

Real journalism will sell everytime, it might be tricky in Nigeria though.

That was a lit read. Thanks.

Point gained: Consumer-centric content, quality, targeted advertising.

Oh, thanks for the suggest. If I may trouble you further, do you have any idea of how to access such International platforms. Insider tips, perhaps
