My kin, there is nothing wrong in criticizing. Im all for it. I wasnāt saying that all critics, i just said some were like bitter jealous people. Not all. At the same time, I dont think it is fair for some people to criticize things they wont or will never do in their lifetime or donāt even have knowledge of, mainly because they dont understand the mechanics of what the person is going through. For example, u said football managers. As a fan, I might not be happy with what my teamās manager is doing, but until I am in his/her shoes, or am an expert in what he/she has to go through everyday, then I must personally shut up. Things are not always what they seem to be my kin.
Have I said or done something wrong my kin? Please let me know so that I wont make the same mistake again.
Back to Hacker News comments. I canāt even.
Wow! You must not have many things to criticise in this lifeā¦ Donāt criticise politicians, athletes, artistsā¦in fact anything YOU canāt do!
Lool, typical Nigerian over bloating your qualifications.
this is bullshit, Iām sorry.
lmao you go dey alright, tbh
Lord banks and his blocked my post again. Because I said they are bullying their users . I called team to start up a tech forum in Nigeria.
UGH to this whole post.
Nairaland is a great example of a Nigerian starting something and making it big.
Itās legitimate to wonder why Seun doesnāt take it to the next level, especially because Nairaland now has so many users.
Itās probable that Seun is just a āIf itās not broken, donāt fix itā kind of guy, and thatās okay.
Linda Ikeji on the other hand made it big off doing something borderline criminal - stealing the written work and photographs of others. Stealing other peopleās intellectual property.
The only reason Linda Ikeji is successful is because she had the luck to be born in a country like Nigeria where companies have no ethics and will still do business with you and associate with you even though you have been publicly PROVEN to be a multiple plagiarist.
Letās not even talk about the early days when she used to post child pornography and videos of people being raped, pictures of accident victimsā dead bodies and so on just to get views and traffic to her blog. Now everybody acts like her blog is some sort of respectable business or even a legitimate business to begin with.
Maybe if stealing other peopleās handbags to stock and sell in your shop is a legitimate business then I stand corrected.
Had Linda Ikeji been born an American, she would be nowhere today.
Plagiarism has destroyed the careers of many journalists and prominent people in America, and as anyone who went to university in America can back me up on this, āNEVER EVER PLAGIARISEā is drummed into the heads of every student in America from the moment they step foot on campus.
You can be expelled for plagiarism talkless of sued and having your career obliterated.
Linda Ikejiās success is directly related to the fact that Nigeria is a lawless country where Anyhowness is the order of the day.
Nigeriansā Logic = People are talking about you so you must be successful and righteous while the talkers are just bitter and jealous. Haters stop hating.
I guess every other gossip blogger is a law-abiding citizen and Linda Ikeji isnāt as popular as she is because sheās the only one operating by a different ruleset.
It seems like my point is getting lost no matter how I restate it :ā(
These guys arenāt perfect. They arenāt doing it the best way possible. They arenāt capitalizing on all their opportunities. Some of them arenāt even operating ethically. That is all besides the point here.
No matter how much better or ethical your offerings are, you need users. You need to go from zero to a million users to a household name. Theyāve proven they can do it. Why would I focus on meting out correction / advise when I have so much to learn?
Since when is stealing = āarenāt perfectā???
This is what I simply cannot understand in all these excuses you and other apologists continue to make for her.
If she had stolen physical goods instead of written work, would you be saying this?
That is what disgusts the people on this thread.
When I said arenāt perfect I was referring to the fact that there are obvious gaps in their strategies where people can advise them on how to do better.
Hence the follow up statement that they arenāt doing it the best way possible. And the sentence after that is they arenāt capitalizing on their business opportunities.
I assumed it was clear what the operating ethically bit was referring to.
Itās getting tiring having to explain my point is isolated to the fact that knowledge on growth strategies in Nigeria is important to this community, where everyone is presumably building something.
I never justified whatever underhanded practices anyone is involved in. Iām not making excuses for anyoneās poor product quality or subpar business strategies.
My point had always been despite whatever criticisms or improvement you have to offer them, they have a wealth of knowledge to offer on growing a digital product with a Nigerian audience. Thatās far more valuable to the average radar reader than the criticism.
Somehow this point keeps getting lost in transit and the gaps are being filled in with some weird impression that Iām making excuses for them. I am not. I have no interest in the individuals or their line of work. I just appreciate that they are people I can learn from.
If you know what they know about growing a Nigerian audience, weāre all ears. Till then, please save your disgust for a rainy day.
Lindaikeji blog does a good job by getting those gossip. I donāt like her blog because she has no respect for her users. The background advert wallpaper always make the site look annoying and unreadable. Blogging is not all about making money from adverts the user experience matters. Bellanaija looks more descent and professional.
Kudos to Lindaikeji, the reigning championā¦ YOU CAN BE BETTER THAN THIS
There are a ton of blogs that rival her. You have to do your research on that one
Iām new here.
Reading through itās pretty obvious that a good number of us do not visit Linda Ikeji.
I swore I never would, until I got a job. Everyone at work reads Linda Ikeji. The secretary keeps a tab open and when a new story pops up, gist has started in the office. That is Linda Ikejiās audience. And she understands her consumers better than most tech entrepreneurs do. That blog is sprinkled with her (perceived) personality, and it fuses the gist people want to hear. We are Nigerians after all; the more juice in a story, the more you want to hear it. Itās like when youāre in secondary school and you want to be in the clique that has the 411 on everyone, Linda Ikeji is that clique.
No one said anything about how much Seun Osewa is worth though. Maybe thereās more juice in Linda Ikejiās gist.
Because pulling numbers out of oneās ass does no one any good.
Mr. Seun Osewa is most likely close to being a millionaire (in dollars). I dont think he is a millionaire (in dollars) yet. Does Nigeria have any internet or web based millionaires (in dollars) yet? I dont think Nairaland makes dat much money yet, although they have the potential to make more. They only get about 1.5 million visitors per day n I dont think Google AdSense pays alot for a million visitors per day. One has to have tens to hundreds of millions visitors per day to make alot of money with Google AdSense.
