I want your opinion on the First Nigerian Tipping Platform

My name is David Ajala. I’m currently developing a social tipping platform called [NairaTip][1] that allows users to send and receive small amount of money as tips on social networking sites and with email address.

NairaTip Work For:

  • Giving money to your social connections: followers, fans, readers,
    friends etc
  • Accepting payment on the internet
  • Charitable donations.
  • and the list goes on . . . .

Zero transactions fees - Receiving and sending money is 100% free. We make money on Forex fees and withdrawal.

To Get Started: NairaTip is still in development, don’t deposit Naira. For testing you can deposit bitcoin testnet. Get some here http://tpfaucet.appspot.com/ with your NairaTip bitcoin address. It will be converted instantly into Naira.

Nairatip is currently available to test with: Twitter and Email.

First create NairaTip account by logging in with your twitter account on our website.

To send money to your Twitter followers: Tweet @NairaTip tip @receiver amount

  • Replace @ receiver with the username of the tip receiver and the
    amount you want to send.
  • You can also send tweet directly on our web interface.
  • Nairatip’s @ NTnotify will alert your tip receiver about your tip.

To send money to email address: Go to NairaTip web interface and choose email as tip mode, then enter the receiver email address and amount.

  • NairaTip will automatically send email to your tip receiver, advising them to pick up the tip from you and a confirmation will be sent back you once the tip has been claimed.

This sounds really good, and if it works the way it should you might just create an evangelist in me.
I have been following threads on radar since inception, but I created an account this night just to show support for what you’re building.

Thank you for sharing your feedback with me here in the forum…

This sounds really great.

One question, if I receive a tip and don’t have a Naira Tip account, do I have to create one to get the tip?

Just tipped 2 people on twitter

Great idea, as a user I’ll be concerned about security.

Yes, you have to register account. A link is included in the tweet for people that doesn’t have account and only that username can claim the tip.
Thanks

The main security concerns for users are data integrity, payment authorization and confidentiality which are already taken into consideration when designing the system.

There’s mention and notification as the tips are sent and received which can be seen across the network for confirmation.

Users payment details are not shared by NairaTip to the other receiving parties.

NairaTip rely on the blockchain which can be trusted to provide adequate security services since the data can’t be tampered with.

There are other security measures for account authentication on NairaTip.

@askbtc Awesome. This is one of the best ideas I’ve seen around. I’ll play around with it in a little bit. Can you just give us a little background story on the project, how you came about the idea, pain points you are trying to solve? I think that would give a little more context about how it could benefit us as users.

I started 3 months ago based on my experience trying to explain Bitcoin to Nigerians and the need to find a convenient way to small micropayment back to Nigeria without losing all the money on fees.

People ask us for money all the time and we ended up sending more than what they asked because of the minimum transfer amount and fees.

There are many different issues affecting the adoption of micropayment systems or mobile money in Nigeria and NairaTip solve most of these problems.

Problems

  • Social network users lack convenient way to send and receive small
amount of money to friends, followers, fans, readers, viewers and
    subscribers online

  • Transactions charges on micropayment makes it costly for transfer of
    small amounts of money.

The most important feature of NairaTip is the ability to send and receive money using social networks and email without paying for transactions fees.

Also, users have their own webpage where they can set their URL to their username in order to receive tips directly to their account.

Question: have you ever thought of applying thus to bets/betting?

Not really but this is possible. In fact, bitcoin related games are more fair because the hash algorithm used to calculate the winnings are publicly displayed.

What I’m planing to do is to allow users to top up their mobile phones. Users can send their phone numbers to NairaTip account on social networks or they can just convert their balance to airtime on the web interface(this is better due to privacy concerns).

Thanks

@eztechwin we experienced downtime due to DB update. It’s working now, you can try it again. Thank you.

Is this possible to use as a reward system in cases of referrals?? Where you get to reward your users for inviting others… That kind of scenario

Yes, we are going to have user referral program.

Nigeria equivalent of changetip.com?

With the usual “Naira” there even though the service isn’t dependent on the currency.

The default currency is Naira due to Bitcoin’s volatility. Even though bitcoin is supported for funding, they are automatically converted to Naira value.

Quick update:
A lot has happened since I created this topic but unfortunately the site is still in beta mainly due to stressful Remita payment processor integration & developing a bitcoin retail exchange https://nairaex.com

I have added new features Facebook tip & send a tip with One-Time Tip Link.
