Last Friday I went for a birthday party, although I was reluctant to go because I had no cash with me. But I was convinced that I will be OK as long as I have my debit card. So I took my debit cards (UBA and Bank) to be doubly assured or so I thought. Making payment would be as easy as UBA or GTB right? Wrong!!! At the club at 2am the barman told me both cards weren’t working. I took the risk of going to the nearest ATM machine then I got the annoying “Switch inoperative” response. Since that Friday I have made up my mind to always have cash on my person because Nigerian banks are not always reliable. My experience is based on the two banks I use, it is only safe to assume that maybe other banks are doing it better. How well are your bank apps, cards ATM machine treating you? Are you satisfied?
Going to write a medium post this week titled “The Nigerian Banking System Doesn’t work”
Is it necessary? or simply because you think it is?
Using Diamond bank and I had No Issue with their Visa Debit Card. Till May This year when they stooped supporting online transactions outside Nigeria.
Now had to open an Account with GTbank. No issue yet. just working fine.
UBA is always certain not to work!
You are one lucky satisfied customer
Those guys eh, they successfully rendered my online payment ability useless for a week.
Oddly enough, my UBA card almost never works in Nigeria but has come through for me every time I’ve tried it abroad.
Banks are not reliable, network issue or upgrades every weekend.
Avoid headache, hold Cash. Cash is King.
Trust UBA to lead if banks with prevalent “Switch inoperative” error were ranked.
had some issues with my diamond $ card, but stan chart is always seamless. with nigerian transactions, they all suck
Are you able to make payments on Google Play Store with your GTB card?
Not a solution that can be implemented for overseas online payments. Seems the headaches will be with us for a while…
I don’t use UBA, but I’m still affected by their ineptitude because my boss banks with them.
For online transactions on Google Play? Other banks I’ve made enquiries about seem to have the same issue as GTB, so I’m stuck with them.
Never tried with GTbank card. Diamond debit was working.
With online transactions and foreign sites, I think it’s a CBN regulatory ish. Or so my bankers tell me.
ATM withdrawal is however a different matter altogether. I think our banking sector hasn’t fully gotten a grip on technology. They just do it to keep up with the Joneses.
So was GTB. Is your Diamond card working currently?
No, since may.
never used google play so i have no idea
