i love the web, everyone does. but one of the little problems with using the web is creating accounts and keeping record of your accounts. over the years i have seen my online account grow from a few to a whole lot. so i seems to have problems keeping record of all my online accounts. so i will like to know how do you keep record of your online account. do you have any hack you will like to share. i am interested
You can store the links to them in Google Bookmarks and keep track of how many they are…
Google Bookmarks? i am actually talking about your username and password combination for all your online accounts how do you get to remember the combo
I have a couple of unique usernames I usually use. Both authentic ones like trae_z and others for when I’m trying to go anonymous. Password usually a website name and base word combo. Different base words could exist for different category of sites.
Thanks… this seems good
I have about 4 usernames. 3 passwords. I also have an Evernote account where I store my usernames and passwords ( sort of encryted the passwords so I can only know what they really mean). Same for all the devices I use. I learnt the hard way when I locked my phone some years ago and I couldn’t remember the code I used. That ended the tenure for that phone and all the files I had in it.
Keepass - http://keepass.info
Oldschool - I have a passworded microsoft excel file. Columns with url and recovery questions all documented.
I just checked now and I have 197entries.
Every time I open my PC, the first thing i do is open the excel document. its on dropbox so ir always fresh.
Its got password to open and password to modify.
Haven’t tried the listed apps because once I am on PC mode, picking up the phone feels like hard labour.
besides i do a lot of copy and paste when creating accounts.
Maybe i am just too conventional.
If you have a Google account and you use chrome, Google’s password manager is an option. Another alternative is https://lastpass.com
Lastpass and any of its competitors are best. Excel files and co don’t seem secure.
Use lastpass password manager
Thanks guy for the ideas… Been a little busy, will be trying out ‘lastpass’ everyone seem to be talking about it
I had a job where I had to memorize IP’s and corresponding passwords for 10’s of servers. Perfect practice for multiple account(online and off) having in later years.
Well the best solution for this problem is to use Chrome browser(both on desktop and mobile) which has an inbuilt password manager. You can view all your saved passwords from http://passwords.google.com
This must have really been a whole lot of work
Lastpass and google, do they store passwords in the cloud?
Yes, they do.
So that means If someone got my login details, all my passwords are his?
Not like i am challenging the methodology, I am hoping to learn a better way cos I really have a lot of passwords and its growing. Having to do CTRL F most times isn’t very effective.
For secure digital storage there must be 2 barriers.
Normally it should be a physical and digital but in this context, I cannot implement the physical part.
So the way I express my implementation is that first someone has to access my dropbox(login details 1) and access my excel file(Password to view and a different password to edit).
So that gives me two(2) barriers.
Is there any flimsy explainable double barrier perspective to lastpass and google docs?
In which case you really should use 2 factor authentication on your LastPass or Google account. They will have to get a hold of your password, and your phone.
