How did Nairabet hijack #ThingsILongThroatFor from Pepsi

This is like placing a NairaBET shop in a Pepsi party. How on earth did Pepsi let this happen?

Wait. This was a Pepsi thing? Wawu

Hijack?

It’s a promoted tweet - an ad.

And besides it looks like a regional lock i.e only displayed to Nigerian users for that hashtag.

ThingsILongThroatFor was a Pepsi campaign to launch a new Pepsi bottle “Long Throat”. They’ve been playing around with pre launch teasers for days, before they can unveil what the hashtag is about, Nairabet decides to pay for a Twitter promoted trend.

Any brand can key into a Hashtag that already has attention, it’s just about having brilliant people who think out of the box on these things. For instance, #HelloChallenge has been trending organically for days, I can’t believe no brand (e.g telecoms) is leveraging on this. Anybody can own it.

Just checked this out on my phone and besides the banner, everything else i see is content that is Pepsi. Wizkid, Tiwa and Seyi. I don’t see any content from Nairabet. To me it looks like Nairabet is using their money to increase reach for Pepsi’s campaign. But you never know, let’s see what they do with it. We dey look.

I noticed it today too, I wont use the word hijack but they did ride the wave to their own good I think, there’s no trademarking hashtags or privatizing it, is there? this is like putting a gala near a coke bottle in a coca-cola ad.

Speak of teleco company Am sure MTN will not buy into any of this…though they have the guys who think outside the box or house self…

Anyone can take ideas your campaign and God help you, if they execute better with less funds. Hahaa.

Even Indomie could have used it but they wouldn’t
