Has NiRA crashed the price of .ng domains to NGN500?

Can someone please help confirm this it seems to only appear on this particular website
http://www.olisa.tv/2016/07/22/nira-crashes-cost-ng-domain-registration-n500/

I still can’t figure out how reducing the price of. Ng extension to 500 will create jobs. I feel tagging the price at 500 naira will only make the cost of setting up a domain cheaper when you use the. Ng extension, I’m not against Nira price reduction from 16,000 to 500(that’s if it is true).

It helps keeps some cash in your pocket …

As more Nigerians are getting on the .ng train, the Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA) said it is excited about the development, as the Board has specially consented to making **

.name.ng

** domain names to be very affordable, at a price not more than N500, Nigeria CommuncationsWeek gathered.

More .ng Domains mean Cheaper .ng Domains - NIRA

Everything has to [be said to] create jobs if you want to keep your own.

Is this price-crash for .ng, .name.ng or both?

Update:
Just chatted with an agent at Whogohost. The new price is for “.name.ng” domains. That is, domains like ndianabasi.name.ng. I make an enquiry regarding this at Whogohost.com. The agent took a lot of time to respond to my enquiry, saying he was consulting with his oga. I guess my enquiry must have startled them! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: Anyway, Whogohost has updated their price to reflect this change.

Statement from NIRA:

The NIRA Executive Board wants all Nigerians to be able to register and use the .name.ng string, even in conjuction with their existing Free or Paid email services. The Board has specially consented to making .name.ng domain names to be very affordable, at a price not more than N500. Yes - Five Hundred Naira per domain. The prices of all domain strings are now reduced, to get more Nigerians on board.

Now, my question:
What is the relevance of crashing the price for “.name.ng” domains? How many persons open domains with the “.name.ng” extension? I guess NIRA is continuing with their stance of insensitivity. If they really want an increased registration of .ng domains, why didn’t they slash the price for “.com.ng” and the incredulously expensive “.ng” domains?

In the coming days, as more registrars update their platforms, you will notice the price reduction reflecting on the purchase of .ng domain names that you make.

but wait first…why would i want to buy .name.ng domain extension, why complicate matter for my prospect, make .ng, .com.ng domain extension worth less than 500 NGN we can then join hands in singing kumbaya

“.name.ng” domains, in my opinion, are suitable for personal domain names, e.g. adeniran.name.ng. I still do not understand why the decided to slash the price for that irrelevant extension, while utterly ignoring more useful ones like .com.ng, .org.ng, .ng, etc.

@lordbanks: I think we should invite the CEO of NIRA for an AMA. Any seconder? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I didn’t even know there was a .name.ng. Even if it was free, I won’t use it.

So “name.ng” domain is equivalent to rat meat?
Wow…I hope the Dg of Nira is not seeing this…he will so so feel terrible concerning their decision

But has anyone reached out to enquire if this officially excludes the *.ng domains?

Madam Ebola came to town and People stopped buying/eating bush meat :poop:
