Hello Guys,
I’m John Ojurabesa… and I’m unhappy with the ‘Free Lunch’ mentality of a lot of ‘StartUps’ around ‘here’.
While we see a lot of great StartUp teams coming on the scene with a genuine desire to build solutions to problems and pivot their growth majorly on working business models and satisfied, PAYING CUSTOMERS… I see that there’s been a growth of subtle assumptions that Venture Funding (and the possibility of getting so much MONEY in no long time) is a better motivation to build something (Or, say clone something ).
So, we find people coming up with Solutions and Business Models that’ll supposedly appeal to likely VCs and other sources of some cushy cash… without primarily focusing on the MARKET for whom they are assumed to be creating SOLUTIONS, the MARKET that in reality, should pay their way to growth.
So, why exactly am I really ranting on a Monday morning?
I simply felt the need to share with the community this Course on Coursera I’ve taken that shares a lot of Knowledge and Insights… How to Finance and Grow Your Startup – Without Venture Capital
All that said, I believe with a MARKET-first or CUSTOMER-first ‘Localization’ orientation… (And not “Just Go for the Money” motivations) - Nigerian Startups will achieve a lot more - And we’ll have more truly PROFITABLE startups as against PAPER RICH, CASHFLOW poor examples we see around.
Ok, EndOfRant.
Merci!
