Foto.com.ng is down

I have a project that I needed original African images for, then I recalled an African stock photography site I once stumbled on - and bookmarked - foto.com.ng.
To my surprise, the site was/is down - all day - at the time I published this. I quickly did a search on whois and realize it’s scheduled to expire in 2017.
Does anyone here have a useful info about the site?

Was it part of Spark?

It’ll be a shame if it went into the deadpool. There is a growing unmet need waiting to be filled in that niche.

Hey guys, calm down. We shouldn’t be quick to reach a conclusion. Who knows, it might as well be a server glitch or something…

I have a couple of client site on whogohost.com and they are up.

This is the part i’m curious about.

I really need answers though cos it’d really help me on a project I’m part of.

@akindolu left Foto last year, effectively leaving the product in the hands of the Spark team, aka Jason and devs at iroko. Perhaps he can shed some insight.

Haha. I saw this coming that I’ll be mentioned. True, I led Foto for about 2 years or so, but I think the comment on this is best not from me.

@ekemini The site was down due to server issues, It is back up now.

WhoGoHost is just a domain registrar, It is not hosted on it.

well, you guys lost ton of customers + this post is #1 when u search for foto.com.ng

Have they changed their pricing model yet?

Glad that the service is back online. Guys, I think some of us need to water down on the pessimism. Most of us here should appreciate the efforts it takes to keep a server online, especially in this era of unprovoked cyber assaults.

By the way, they’ve got some awesome photos and I’m interested in purchasing some. But I’m worried - about someone sending me an email or calling and asking me to take down a photo. Do I have any reason to be worried about the usage of their photos?

No, you can’t worry about that. There is a model agreement already in place, to not have that. So be free to buy the images there.

I don’t think that says downtimes shouldn’t be discussed. On the global scene (more like SV scene), downtimes are discussed by the community and this never has anything to do with pessimism. On the other hand, it is usually an opportunity to learn something new as the service provider usually provides a postmortem.

Of course most downtimes around here are usually chalked up to “unscheduled maintenance” a.k.a. “i fucked up, didn’t realize it on time, and it took me a while to fix it”. Source? I’ve been there.

This.

Plus I believe every online company that provides critical services should have an independent status dashboard. I remember the response to an OVH fibre cut near Montreal. The level of transparency and detail they provided in their status dashboard as they resolved it made you feel like you were standing right next to the technicians as they dug the ground and clamped the cables back together.

If you need a hosted version, http://status.io is a good and popular choice. If you want a self-hosted (hopefully in a different DC version), check out https://cachethq.io.

Thanks @techscorpion for your pointers.

Isn’t it ironical that Flyspray which powers status.ovh.com isn’t available and they didn’t set up a status page :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:. Talking about 'doing the talk!"

You know you could have just googled Flyspray, right? That’s a link to an old domain that’s no longer being operated. Yes, its a product you download and install on your infrastructure - ovh probably runs an old version. Nothing ironic.
