Flutterwave: Building the Future of Payments in Africa - any thoughts?

I just came across Iyinoluwa Aboyeji’s - of Andela - post that he has just launched a new Fintech startup - http://www.flutterwave.com/

Any thoughts?

Initially I thought he was crazy when I saw the news about leaving Andela, considering the score/prominence the company just gained, but this explains it.

I think Flutterwave and Paystack will co-exist and succeed together.
Have you noticed that they actually power PayStack?

A bit weird that their site still has placeholder text in sections…

I was just going to mention that.

Meanwhile, I saw MTN, Airtel and Etisalat logos on the homepage, under payment methods. Does this mean they do operator billing, too?

LOL. No, they don’t. Those logos are reference to their airtime vending offering

Big congrats to @iaboyeji, I once predicted the demise of Interswitch and I guess he is fulfilling that prophecy. (Pay attention to letter in bold.

on the customer direct front you mean to say? They would still remain very much relevant in the payments processing value chain, only that they are now more comfortable to play behind the scenes than ever before. They make a lot of these things happen.

FlutterWave is infrastructure focused, which means it has capacity to play in the same space with Interswitch…“behind the scene as you noted”

This tweet from @iaboyeji explains how FlutterWaves works:

Look very closely, and you will see that this has Access Bank written all over it. They are clearly the quiet partners behind this.

Has anyone began exploring integration with Flutterwave?
I’m particularly interested in localizing checkout currency in multiple countries across Africa on our platform, however, looking through their API docs, it seems that “Get Paid” is largely functional in only Nigeria currently (while “Pay” is available continentally) … I am missing something?

I’ve initiated communication with them. Hoping to get their email soon

One would think that “Payments” is the only thing possible in Nigeria’s FinTech.
