First project went live - imeela.com

Finally 13 months after launching the platform, our first crowdfunding campaign went live. A female creative painter based in Lagos, LadyPainter, started a project to beautify public schools creating a better learning experience for the kids. We got BattaBox to support video production and we went live on the evening before Good Friday. Very poor timing to launch a premier campaign with limited access to support. Few lessons learned that I would share with you as you decide to launch a platform or product:

  1. Don’t launch before weekend. If the support team is not robust and flexible, it could jeopardize experience of early users.
  2. Anticipate issues and plan to mitigate. A soft launch will be ideal so that you can control the impact and respond immediately.
  3. Payments were falling due to a major woocommerce update and our partners/IT were working all Easter weekend to fix it. Make sure that your partners are reliable and willingly to support you to grow.
I know these things are not new or same for every launch, it might be helpful to have it at the back of your mind.
Within 24 days, the campaign has raised 18% and have helped us to have a real test of the platform. Your feedback will be appreciated https://imeela.com/project/community/ladypainter/

Thought crowd funding was sort of illegal in Naija? Even if it is good one. We sure need startups like this. Good luck.

Donation and Reward Crowdfunding are not illegal in Nigeria. They are excluded from SEC’s regulatory remit. Ban only affected Equity Crowdfunding.

Is there bad crowd funding?
