Don't be a Radar Newbie :(

It annoys me a little bit when I click on an outgoing link in radar and it tries to open it in the same page.

Yes, I know I could just hold down “CTRL” and click the link to get it in a new tab, but a simple “target=_blank” would be nice

but a simple Settings > (scroll down) > Open all external links in a new tab would be nice :slightly_smiling_face:

The new title of this thread is cracking me up.

Just out of curiosity though, is there a reason not to have this as the default action? Are there people who prefer to open a link on the same tab? (especially when the link is within a post they are reading)

But this used to be enabled by default; what happened?

Exactly,

I’m still trying to imagine a use case where I’d want the links to open in the same tab and the only one I could think of was that before the Twitter app started opening links with its in-app browser, I used to avoid clicking links in tweets because it meant having to switch between two apps.

However, I think the in-app link opening fails when what you’re viewing has another link in it -_-
(No back button)

I prefer links to open on the same page by default.

(especially when the link is within a post they are reading)

The context in the parenthesis is important. but if your preference remains the same in this context, then cool.

An afterthought
Actually, the behaviour might be similar in mobile and “back button/swipe” is quite easier. So, probably doesn’t matter.

Hmmmm… when you bring up the mobile side of things, it starts to maybe make sense. I guess the question is:

  • on my phone would i prefer using the “back button” or “switching tabs” (thinking face)

When it comes to using chrome on my nexus 7, switching tabs is what I’d prefer. However, using safari on an iphone, switching tabs is actually through “swiping”(you have to click “back” to view the previous page)

I thought I included the part in parentheses.
Mobile or not, I like links to open in the same page by default (which is why sites like Medium gets on my nerves).

I (and most users I would imagine), prefer control.

It is not as easy to enforce control (as a user) if the site is sprinkled with target whatevers.

Default should be opening links on the same tab/page. Long Tap usually brings option for open in new tab. This is also possible via right click on PC.

If by default links open on a new tab, how does the user force his browser to use the same tab?.. I know this is also possible sha but…
