Doing things that don't scale

Can you give examples of what your startup currently does that can’t scale?
The obvious one I know is most startups are focused on one state / city (e.g. Lagos / Abuja)

Hi Remi, for an instance:

Brian of airbnb could walk to an available accommodation, have a word with the owner, tell him/her, I would bring you a guest and you could make money off the guest sleeping over - you only have to give me a cut.

Brian hits the streets, finds a guest and matches the guest with the available accommodation. Transaction complete.

He certainly can’t do that for all users, he can’t scale by doing that, but the value of doing that is that he learns the detailed process of doing the business. If there would be hitches, he knows ahead.

This puts him in a better position to build an automated solution.

Think of it as doing things the manual way at first.

Hope that helps.

@tjwizking Got it!

I was looking for actual examples which other startups in Nigeria have used.

That’s an actual example.
It’s something I have done, still doing for a marketplace idea, plus I’m Nigerian, does that count?

The airbnb reference misled me. Certainly counts - I stand corrected.

I think the whole idea of “taking the hustle offline”…

Is simply understanding your market enough to be able to create a better customer experience online and offline, by focusing on existent pain points.
