The Nigerian startup ecosystem though still in infancy has made some global headlines examples include Mark Zuckerberg’s visit last year and some startups accepted into global accelerator programs like Ycombinator and 500 startups. Though some folks like Emeka Afigbo feels that there’s no ecosystem in Nigeria, a lot has been done and more still needs to be done. There are many text platform evangelizing the gospel of our ecosystem but I feel we need to add audio as a distribution channel. So folks do you think we need an audio version of Techcabal or Techpoint to help spread the word?
I seriously wouldn’t mind a radio station, online particularly.
I also wouldn’t mind an easy to access online radio or podcasts…
Only if the content is worth it.
That’s sounds like a cool idea.
But spreading the WORD across Nigeria, the Continent or the World, Which is it going to be?
But if Nigeria let’s face fact:
The Major constrain to so many Startup and Online Business today in Nigeria apart from funding would be the cost of Internet.
Internet Access is still a luxury in Nigeria today, for someone to be able to sustain 24/7 Online Presence, Audio streaming or even Video streaming still cost a fortune and the Quality of the network or service you even get, sometimes isn’t worth it all.
NB: Am not referring to cities like Lagos, Abuja, PH, Ibadan or other Major cities.
I believe the Text Platforms are still doing great.
But a lot of folks still stream YouTube videos right? And you know that data consumption for video is far higher than audio. The thing is that those that will find it interesting will use it no matter the data constraints and Nigerians in diaspora will find it interesting too.
A radio station? I’m not quite sure about that, maybe sponsored programmes, TV and Radio, that’d be really nice. We need more podcasts definitely. I used to enjoy CRUDCAST by @xolubi before it ended. I’ll try Made in Nigeria too. @AceKYD can’t do no evil.
Meanwhile, you might also want to follow a project I’m currently working on, see the preview:

It’s about telling our own stories and controlling the narrative.
I agree to the following points raised.
But that help re-enforce the taught that it is for a Global Audience.
I have not listened to any Nigerian Podcast before even though I listen to a lot of podcasts. I’ll try @AceKYD’s podcast before the week runs out. But one thing I’m certain of is that podcasts need sponsors because producing a podcast with very good sound quality is quite expensive.
The podcast series I love most is by NPR’s How I built This. The production quality is simply superb. If there is a Nigerian version of it, I’ll definitely spread the word.
Will check that out too
THIS is certainly a good idea. It should be part of the YABA Manifesto. Just a studio where founders and others in the industry can come share their stories. Will be great for sharing ideas and collaborating to make things work!
I love this twist, makes a whole lot of sense. Folks interested in the Nigerian startup scene can come together and share ideas through this medium. People can now learn from each other phonetically. That’s grand!
I am a fan of technology podcasts, so I wouldn’t mind an audio version of TechCabal (with some lighthearted vibes).
That’s noted sir
