Came across an online add recently for what looks like a payment app “ChatPay”. Though the visuals on the site here http://chatpay.com.ng/ would seem to suggest something else. After some very amateurish snooping around discovered it may have links to Sterling Bank - can anyone verify?
Whois records for the domain name chatpay.com.ng show Moses Sule as the registrant who appears to be an employee with sterling bank.
Ignoring the above, I’m curious to know why you think the application is associated with the bank?
Unrelated: Do any Nigerian domain name registrars offer whois protection?
the Whois records show that the nameservers are Sterling Banks and ofcourse the direct connection of the above named individual with the bank hence my thought that there may be a link - I could be wrong.
I didn’t check the nameservers. Given your discoveries, isn’t it obvious?
looks so - given the name, i would wager that it is something along the lines of WEMA Banks BuxMe.
I think for .com Yes, .com.ng don’t think so.
Are these people not tired ??
Another payment app … Kilode gaaan …!!!
Is it your app?
It’s the payment app season, with deeper smartphone penetration in the 18-35 demographic its not a bad bet, at least before market saturation and app fatigue set in.
All these banks and their payment gateways, are they just waking up from sleep? Were were they when Vogue pay came to rescue us from Interswitch. Recently working with Gtpay and still can’t find anything interesting with it.
I think banks should focus on enabling online payment gateways instead of competition with them.
Thank you for using VoguePay!
Lol, see this is why i truly hate how banks operate.
1 bank decides to test the waters and launches an idea, Bank xyz copy till they make the product very bland and the market crashes.
The copy and paste tingy from banks is very tiring, no significant USP, same payment and mobile app.
Buxme by Wema was a nice idea, reduce cash transaction, i wont be surprised once the user adoption grows other banks will copy.
Its in their blood.
Well, let’s wait and see…8pm Friday 29 July is the launch.
Looking like ChatPay will be a card-based payment app connected to your IM accounts…
I am not very confident that a federated payment/banking app created by a bank with its name on it will be a thing. Ómò kolé werk…
well another bank jumps in. I think there is a bigger problem here (if you can call it that) why it seems that a a good portion of the innvoations around fintech seem to be “owned” by banks, whereas in most other countries these innovations are usually owned by startups / independents.
Not Really,
70% of the market share for fintech apps are owned by Startups, Individuals and Big companies with banks slowly and i mean slowly creating mobile payment apps recently. but the fact they want to create ‘me too’ products kind of gets tiring to me, worse still its same app just different bank name, ZERO USP.
Interesting service… It’s the not the epayment season, it’s the Bot season…
I just checked balance and bought airtime from a Bot (sort of)
I must say the ISW bit looked neat
These companies need to merge and form one big one.
