ChatPay may have broken through a barrier?

Hi guys,

In light of the recent and seemingly successful launch of ChatPay, two questions came to my mind given how the app works:

  1. Would Nigerians be confident enough to give an independent 3rd party app their accouont number?
  2. What would the critical success factors be for such an app?

Successful? By what numbers? Do you have access to user adoption numbers so far?

  1. They wont

  2. User Adoption

Yup user adoption is key here, that trust barrier is just too high. But I seem to recall thats what was once said about making payments online in Nigeria with Debit / Credit cards. It just takes a sufficient amount of people to start using the service before it becomes acceptable.

You cant compare paying online to paying via a social media app, again this isnā€™t China where user adoption or paying via 3rd party apps is common, we still hvnā€™t gotten critical mass or adoption in our payment system so i donā€™t see them achieving any significant traction, remember a certain Pay with Capture? They can spend big bucks on Online marketing but Strategic Partnerships is where will sell them.

butā€¦
does it work?
does it work reliably?

theyā€™ll be no adoption issues if people can trust it to work.

Chatpayā€™s spin doctors working overtime have convinced a silly Vanguard editor that there are more than a 100 billion people in the world: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/08/chatpay-makes-entry-targets-100-billion-social-media-users/

That headline alone already makes me consider them one huge joke!!!

Lol. I am pretty sure they meant 100 million.

This is the part that cracks me up though:

Uniquely different from almost similar applications

Even if that is what they meant, it still makes no sense.

Actually took time to read it. Filled with so many jargon.
And guess what guysā€¦ they named her ā€œKikiā€ ā€¦ sounds sooooo NigerianšŸ˜’
I like the idea, butā€¦

:disappointed: I am not even sure who to blame for this article, the journalist who wrote it or the spin doctor who spinned it.

100 billion or 100 million, their home market is Nigeria, do they even now how many smartphone users exist here locally, figures show mobile penetration to be about 74m, talkless of smartphone ownership, so where did they get the 100b figure fromā€¦

The person who wrote the article kept calling it chatplay.

NCC says otherwise, close to 100M

Give Chatpay 3 months then they will go the aggressive hungry man style for customers, let them ask Pay with Captureā€¦after launch n few eventsā€¦Zilch.
