Aside from development, from my experience, it’s almost impossible to administer a server (file, development, mail or web server) without the use of a command line (AKA shell). So knowledge of the command line is vital for every techie.

I will also advise that the Linux shell be mastered since most servers run on Linux; basic knowledge of the Windows Command Line is sufficient for most tasks.

Try a windows server…much more a Windows Server 2012 R2 … although there is powershell, you can go weeks without needing to type a command nor write a script.

To make your life easier learn the bash for linux Then for windows just use a git bash instead of he command line.
