If so…i’m not one!! Kindly refrain from using Nigerian termed words. Use internationally accepted and understandable words…so we can sail in the same ship… Good coding day…
I’m confused now.
Ok, mom/god/whatever.
Ahhhhhh Shoki
Interesting. While its creators are from and based in Nigeria, Radar welcomes everyone from everywhere. Where are you from then?
Something about this phrase bothers me… All of the discussions here have been in English, and it’s a little off, I feel, to go on a site with predominantly people from a place and just say, don’t say anything from said place. More importantly, you didn’t even give any examples.
Yeah, examples of the Nigerian terms?
I only see ‘kuku’ in the wema logo post.
Posts are mostly in queens English, ask if anything confuses you. That’s how we Nigerians outside Lagos have been coping.
Ever heard of SI units? when it comes to naming currency, kindly use dollars and Euros…it assists in conversions to my native currency. I’m from S.A. Though currently on tour to Kenya for a trip sponsored by my current uni… New York University…
anyway, i’m happy for the ride so far…
LMAO nicely done
No, that’s not accurate. Radar is not a Nigeria-only forum, just as TechCabal is not a Nigeria-only website. Everyone is invited.
Having said that, @maina you do realise that people from different places find it easier to think in their local currency, and nobody should have to convert to dollars or euros just because. Unless perhaps they are a journalist. For the rest normal humans, just as there’s SI units, there’s also Google. Takes all of 3 seconds.
I am glad you raised this. I think it is important for us to know that we are all in different ways and for various reasons seeking to understand and perhaps, learn.
I am not a programmer - and so like you, I may decide to go ahead with a question like - “Are all users in the group programmers?” and for good reason - because I come across some programmer jargon and code and language(s) that I should have some difficulty in understanding.
But I also think New Learning is important. And that sometimes, in order to achieve New Learning, we would need to Conform less to our own standards and systems and then try to Embrace New Systems. By asking meaningful questions and by displaying willingness to go deeper (Unless the Group chose you).
At the end of the day, every language or slang or code or currency will always be hinged predominantly on a particular standard or system or culture or region or place.
It’s more like trying to integrate the Better of Both Sides
@maina just like you I’m not Nigerian, but I agree with @onyeka. Your statement reeks of “negativity”. As a startup founder with continental and global ambitions, I actually relish the idea of meeting other devs, techies, founders from different backgrounds / cultures. See it as an opportunity to learn, see what’s happening elsewhere on the continent and maybe get inspired.
This thread is inherently negative and should have been closed a long time ago. @lordbanks
