Apparently, coders live in the matrix

But then an actual coder begged to differ.

Stereotypes are a problem. I’ve had people befriend me so I could help them build their website, but they don’t think I should ever set foot in a Karaoke bar. But all the coders I know are actually quite “normal” people. A lot of them don’t drink redbull, and quite a few of them have amazing pecs. Welp.

The man was probably hypothetically tweeting na… :grinning:

Lol. What was the context of the tweet? number 50 is quite far off to read without context.

The problem is:
Big Bang Theory,
Silicon Valley,
Person of Interest (The Billionaire),
Arrow (Felicity Smoak,
Flash,
The Blacklist etc. But especially Big Bang Theory.

Would have added Mr. Robot but I doubt most of these people watch it - Even I don’t.

Ever wonder why (some) ‘successful’ people are often viewed as thought-leaders? A ‘successful’ person thinks s/he is entitled to ‘lecture’ the world on issues that are not even remotely within their area of expertise. The age of social media!

The guy was discussing relationships bro, not programming - I think he mentioned that to give an example of people that are totally into their work. Programming is one of those things.

I code too and you could say some of those things, I could basically think code when I am eating or sleeping or walking(probably looking for a solution to a bug).

What you did there was to judge the guy without understanding what he was talking about, guilty of what you accused. The age of social media!

I understand the logic and the premise but can you generalise even if you agree with the statement? Some programmers live pretty normal lives. I will agree with the statement with a sweeping generalisation.

Yeah, they do live normal lives I agree, I just don’t think the guy was alluding otherwise, like @M.O.O suggested, it’s a general stereotype fed by some films and sitcoms, that’s what most people think programmers think and do like, then You now said something about "successful’ people “lecturing” the world on issues they don’t know about like he ran a thread on programming or how programmers live.

I am not attacking you bro, just suggesting that we take a factual look at things before we comment.

Take a look through the thread, if you don’t have issues with any other thing he says apart from No. 50, You can be sure you read it out of context.
