Of course it takes more than a website with upvote buttons to replicate what Ryan Hoover did with PH. But unlike those websites that would be Facebook for Africa, Afrihunt is at least not a broken copy, it works.
@lordbanks Ha! Where was this last week when I thought we needed one for nigeria / africa focused startups?? Could have saved me sometime this weekend. In any case, I also setup a similar clone based on the wordpress script (clone to be released, i need to decide if still neededā¦) Might continue it just for my personal consumption.
@kelonye glad to have you here on radar. Re: agegelist - ended up using a wordpress theme by EPIC to do it. There were a few bugs which I had to fix āon the flyā to make it work effectively. I also forgot how much fun wordpress can be. I really like the simplicity and design of your platform. Looks like you built it from scratch.
@remi so, is the idea for people to get on the platform, vote and talk about to the startups? How do you get people on the platform?
@Lamidi_b_a I originally built it for my personal use to track startups in Nigeria (and ultimately Africa). I found that there were a lot of startups and no real way to keep track. Whilst radar, techcabal and the likes are helpful with coverage, sometimes I just wanted to see a quick list of startups (e.g. travel or education startups). I shared the site here because I figured others might find it useful and potentially contribute. I havenāt done much marketing to attract users to the platform however I do get a couple of emails a week from new startups wanting to be featured on the site.
