Advisors: How do they work and where do we find them?

I’ve heard a number of founders say that they have [insert successful guy here] as an advisor in their company. I’ve also heard some successful guys say they serve as advisors to some companies.

Abeg ‘grey hairs’ in the house, how does it work? Where do we find them, how does a brother attract them? How do you know who to reach out to? What do they require?

It just seems like everyone is looking for funding but the few people I know that have advisors are doing well.

It’s all about realising you can’t always go it alone, but need to lean on the experience of those before you. Willing mentors are all over the place. You just need to be willing to ask/listen.

I recently came across a research that a startup that has mentors and advisors will outgrow a startup without one by ratio of 3:1

It happens that there are several advisor network we can all tap from to grow the tech ecosystem if we just know how.

If you want to know how to attract Advisors, reward them and use them to grow your startup, this will be a good read.

Our revenue grew by 70% after three months of working with a mentor. We also refined our business model and structure and in addition, found that we didn’t need to raise the money we intended to(we actually got a mentor to prepare us for fundraising). I used VC4Africa to request for mentorship and got contacted by a great person with a successful business here in Nigeria. You can try that too. Remember to set up a profile first . Good luck
