Yabacon is referred as the silicon valley in Nigeria but in my opinion i think Lagos is too congested for an innovative center like this, That is why a new silicon valley in Nigeria should be in Akwaibom state for most of its recent and state of the art developments, the state is capable to start and create this kind of project. the economic benefits, the advantages. in terms of infrastructural development, I believe that Akwaibom can execute and manage this kind of project with massive benefits for the State/Country in general, that is why we are on a milestone in reminding the government of this goldmine opportunity. we taught of Ibomtc as a name, what also do you think about the name? and what is your view regarding this? Read about the blog here https://ibomtc.wordpress.com and a change petition @ Change.org.
Thereās no significant technology moving people to akwa-ibom. Iāll propose that the state government should partner with swift or smile networks and subsidize wifi heavily. Thatās just one idea though. Maybe that will encourage tech entrepreneurs to relocate there. But then the offline market and the people that pay for online products live in lagos, so this may not be a very good idea.
Looks like stuff is actually about to go down
Why Uyo? Not everyone will want to relocate to Akwa Ibom state! I think the state government is just trying to encourage the Uyo-based techpreneurs, not for all!
What the fuck is āYabaconā???
Will it kill us to come up with our own names for things?
This is getting out of hand. First Nollywood, now Yabacon.
What in the copy cat hell?
@sop_DDy This is my view (Correct me if i am wrong) why a silicon valley should be created in akwa-ibom state.

The state is ready for new innovations, check out the stadium https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akwa_Ibom_Stadium and other state of the art infrastructure.
-
The people are not heavy users of electricity like that of lagos so thats lesser cost for tech companies running in the state .

The state is blessed with very vast land mass, which if a quarter is push to tech community that will be a African hub for tech investors both international and locally.
@lordbanks i wish senator Akpabio can see this, he is a governor that not only support innovations but has innovations in his mind.
@Keemite let me ask you? If the cost of running your organization is cheaper due to the government subsiding that part to the tech city community will you relocate your your organization to that new location?
@udemesamuel I live in Uyo and I can boldly say Uyo is not ready. How many youths are tech minded and how many people patronise tech? My friends that have tech startups are pushing hard to get accepted whenever they go marketing. The orientation no just dey let alone the trust in tech.
I thought Tinapa was priming to be a tech innovation center?
Also, SV was built based on the schools in the surrounding area which gave life to the businesses that eventually flourished. Even if Uyo is prime for techies, there needs to be a few educational institutes that will drive the growth.
Last I heard, Tinapa was pretty much a dead zone.
To be honest you sound like youāre promoting the state a tad too much. Well I canāt necessarily dispute what you said about Akwa Ibom. But from my basic knowledge of Nigeria and its states what you said doesnāt make Akwa Ibom unique in any way. I could list reasons why Ogun state is an even better site for a tech hub.
But do you know the reason why so many of these service industries are able to thrive in Lagos? It isnāt because of a port or ādevelopmentā. But the simple fact that it has the most educated people in the country. And wherever you have a group of educated people innovation comes. And those intelligent people want a comfortable life at the very least. We also have those that want an above average lifeā¦some want to be rich. And if its not abuja I donāt see were young people can live like thatā¦(just my opinion). Lagos isnāt perfect but it has the ecosystem that can keep the intelligent and self driven people trapped (literally) in the state.
@nono_ette thanks for your opinion but, lets take a simple example of computer village in lagos, was the people tech minded??? when it evolved, it takes time but over time as people see the economical benefits people will adapt and the youth will be inspired to be tech minded. but as for the market the target will still be Lagos and other parts of the country after all most of the distribution channel is majourly online but looking at the cost of doing businessā¦
Just moved to yaba because of āYabaconā valleyā¦ so letās keep it in yaba for now
and i think i love the name āyabacon valleyā
@segebee donāt get @sugabelly going againā¦
Iām surprised the MOD did noto delete this
I quite agree with you
Yabacons
Creativity is far
lolā¦ i and @sugabelly got a special relnship
In reply to tech startups not doing anything in Akwa Ibom, I would like to state some tech startups that are doing well (Assesment would be based on Longevity and relevance as I may not have insight as to their commercial traction). There are companies like: 2479ja tv-an online tv/video streaming platform, www.afropot.com-food ordering and delivery service, codekago interactive-a web and app building company,.start hub innovation-a tech hub ecosystem that teaches web and mobile development, www.hypestationng.com-online media promotions startup, and some more (would update as they come to me). These startups are trying their best or could do more but as we are all aware, publicity and promotions cost may be beyond their budgetary reach (though you may expect that since they are tech businesses, they should know how to establish their presence online, lol). Akwa Ibom state may not be a tech startup haven but few individuals are toiling to change that perception and put adequate structures to begin to acieve that. Entrepreneurship is growing in Akwa Ibom not just Tech industry, lots of young people are really thinking of innovative ideas on what to do, other bodies are also making the awareness of how to start a business at reach for all (Start Conference organized by The Roothub). We still have a long way to go but we are on the sure path to Begin and establish our own Silicon Valley- nay, our own Startup Capital of Nigeria.
That was on another thread. Y U spamming?
