8-year software engineer, will code for food

Will code for food?

Not exactly, don’t close the page now. I’ll explain.

My name is Joseph, an 8-year software engineer and most recently with Konga.com.

What can I offer? I have spent that eight years working on different flavors of Java, from desktops to the web to mobile(ME and Android) to cards. I have been a frontend developer with mixed results to been a middleware and backend developer building systems that kick and continue to kick ass. I’m a graduate student at the University of Roehampton trying to get a Masters in Information Systems Management. I also have a first degree in Computing from the Open University UK. I thank God for the internet every day, without it, I wouldn’t have an education. So if you need a tech manager with a strong coding background, I’m trained.

What can’t I do? PHP, never could learn it, which isn’t saying much, I came to Java by way of C++ and PHP just felt wrong, I can string a web app together using PHP but…No, and I said earlier that I was a frontend developer with mixed results…that was a stretch, I suck at web design. Suck very badly.

Will you REALLY code for food? Yes if you’re building the next Facebook or Path or Konga or…you get my point.

So why did you leave Konga? I joined Konga 6 months in, stayed there for the next three years and had quite a blast. In January of 2016, I was laid off along with 80-odd people, shocking but not surprising; most of the impressive people I’d worked with were leaving too, and the compensation wasn’t so bad.

So at Konga, were you a coder or a Project Manager?

Hey Joseph! So you mention Java and C++, do you work with any languages for back-end web development?

Coder. Konga didn’t have project managers since they didn’t have projects, they have products. They have vibrant product managers.

Hi Joseph,

Misleading but catchy topic i will bite.

Your Strength is more Front end or backend?..Food is on its way

I won’t win any front-end design awards, I don’t understand colors for one. Outside of that, I’m dope(Immodest, I know).

You’re in my head right now.

Joseph, have you done any work in Python? In any case, shoot me a note at tosin@outlook.com. I have some interesting projects that could be up your alley.

Another PHP hater

so you can code but you don’t know how to freelance

you use java but can’t program an android app  even people that didn’t study computer science have apps on the play and app stores.

you worked for 3 years and don’t have an idea on how to start a business.

you worked for 3 years and don’t have capital to start a business. :rage:

Waiting earnestly for a suitable reply to this guy. Anyone?

It’s not just that your trolling is despicable but that 2 people actually liked it. Big shame!!

Nothing shameful in liking my post…

I am more ashamed of a programmer that does not know how to make money online… He claims to have been laid off this year… then comes on radar to brag and beg…

If you know about Internet Marketing and how easy it is to earn online especially for a salary earner or someone who just got laid off (obviously still has money in the bank) then you’ll understand my opinion…

A java programmer with capital that does not have an app on any app store and comes to online to beg for work is a big shame to the programming society in Nigeria.

You clearly like to assume, but that’s beside the point. I don’t understand your opinion. Correct me if I’m wrong, you are saying there is something wrong with a salary earner who got laid off looking for their next job? There is no universe in which that makes sense.

He didn’t get laid off looking for a job. he got laid off and with his self acclaimed experience and skills… he cannot start a business on his own.

OP didn’t say he wanted to start a business on his own. He said he wanted a job. Is there any particular reason why he must start a business on his own?

Does @Godmode mean god complex? I won’t ask what gives you the audacity to question the integrity of someone looking for his next gig.

But I have to tell you Mr. Big shot coder, sometimes what’s holding us back in life, is the absence of crucial life skills like emphathy, kindness, humility etc. Ever heard of that? So when a man comes out to say, he’s looking for a job, your default reaction is not to mock him, hoping to shame him from your excess abundance of arrogance. Can you change?

But let’s return to the crux of your diatribe, you make so many assumptions:

  1. You assume everyone must build a business/CEO to be professional fulfilled.
  2. You assume OP has nothing of value that he’s created and proud of apart from working for past employers.
  3. You assume you’re better than OP.
  4. You assume your words and attitude are helpful.

With all your assumptions, I hope you’re very a happy and satisfied god.

No I don’t do Python.

No I’m not, why would I? I had 3 years of strictly typed languages before I ever heard of PHP, I can write the odd dashboard in it but would rather not. No hate there.

Why do you think I’m here? Freelance, full time even half time or remote, I’m game.[quote=“Godmode, post:11, topic:4909”]
you use java but can’t program an android app  even people that didn’t study computer science have apps on the play and app stores.

I’m a Java engineer who worked at Konga, what did you think I was doing there? I’ve built, designed and deployed more apps than you have fingers, you’d need your toes to get close.

Hmm, I started a Masters degree, shit is expensive but totally worth it. I also started a business, will tell you folks about it someday but today I’m looking for my next gig. :grinning:

No there isn’t…its a social world anyway.

Brag? You are making a lot of assumption about what I do or don’t know and I didn’t even brag, I didn’t mention commit d46966d4b9 did I?:grinning: Beg? Hell yea…

Who programming society don hep? @Godmode, you prejudge and assume a lot about someone you don’t know. I don’t know what you do for a living but if you ever need a Java engineer, hit me up. Beggers can’t be choosers, hey?

Thanks to all who what tried to remove the log of wood from @Godmode eyes, there may be hope for him yet. I see you @Baniyaz, You don’t want to be special anymore :grinning:
